Question about rice cereal

posted 18th Feb
So I had posted about my baby possibly having AR. Since I am pretty positive at this point that is what he has I have been treating it like it is. THe thing that seems to make the biggest difference is putting a little bit of rice cereal in a bottle with BM and giving to him. The problem is Ds hates getting bottle and it is a fight to get him to take one. he has to be next to starving for him to take it and he constantly pulls off the bottle and turns to my chest. Plus I am running out of stored breast milk and have little time to pump. But after I get him to drink a bottle with the cereal it is like he is a total different baby. Happy and playful and sleeping SOOOO much better. I was wondering can I just mix some rice cereal in a little bit of breast milk and spoon feed it to him instead? He will be 4 months in a couple days and he isn't even close to sitting up unassisted yet so IDK if that is just a bad idea all together or what. TIA

Have you tried block feeding? It helped my AR baby tremendously.

Nursing from one breast for several feedings, and then switching.

Yeah I already do that. I have pretty much since he was born because he ate every 30 minutes. It doesn't help at all.

Poor baby. If your LO doesn't like the bottle, I would mix the cereal with quite a bit of breastmilk and just cup feed it into him

yes you should be able to do that just fine! Make sure it's thin enough for him to eat! I don't have that problem because my son is formula fed so I just add it to his bottle. I'm glad it is making a difference. It made a huge difference for my son as well who used to spit up after he ate!

4 months is when dr's and wic tell you that you can start feeding your child cereal 1-3x/day. As long as they can hold their head steady. My LO just turned 4 months old last week and had his checkup on friday
