house keeper...

how much do you pay, what do they do, and how often do they come?

i had a friend of the family come and clean for me 2 x a week when me and DH last split, then we got back together, she went to college, and i just stopped having her come.


well i really need one again.. and not sure about how to hire a "Real" i guess house keeper.

craigslist? go thru an agency?

I'm watching, just because I'm mildly interested....  

My grandmother had a maid, she cleaned all the sheets ect cleaned everything ect. But we did the dishes and stuff if guest came she would have her come the day after we left to do all the house work.... she came every other friday... I dont know her pay tho so im no help there.

Our lady comes every other Tuesday. We pay her $80. She scrubs the hard floors on her hands and knees, cleans the kitchen appliances, dusts, makes beds, scrubs the bathroom, vacuums.... she'll do whatever we want. She does a bang up job too.

I found her through my mom. My mom's cleaning lady employs mine.



Worth EVERY penny.


*eta*- we have a 1700 sq. Ft. Home and it's sparkling clean in the 4 hours she spends. Be wary of pro companies. Many of them charge a la cart, (e.g.- $5 for your stove to be scrubbed, etc.) And it can get pricey!

My friend runs a cleaning service and she charges $50 to do laundry, floors, beds, steam clean furniture, and dishes. She usually goes once a week to each clients home.

I do not suggest craigslist...I hired someone off there (and checked references) and she robbed me!

thats exactly what i needed to hear ;) mines about 1400 2 floors, 3 bed/2bath and a ton of hardwood. it would be so nice to have that. im looking at 4-5 hours once to twice a week. so it seems like they get alot done in that amount of time? i like have a list in my head id like her to do. lol

She cleans everything, and does a better job than I would.   she even polishes my banisters. She goes above and beyond. My family is always annoyed with me after she comes because I don't want anyone to touch anything for a few days, haha. I am considering having her come every 10 days instead of two weeks though. Once a week would be more than necessary for us.

haha id be happy with someone helping me with the laundry.. its never ending   i almost quit cloth diapering, and then i realzied i would be depressed if i did, but our clothes almost never get put away. they get washed, folded, and taken out of the clean basket and put back on lol

Our laundry isn't bad at all. DH wears the hospitals work scrubs and when we're home, we're all in pj's, lmao. Whenever we go out for like dinner or groceris, I'll put clothes on and then when we get home we just hang up the clothes and put our pj's back on, lol. I only do 4 loads of laundry a week!

omg... how many kids do you have?? lol . i have 3 and i do at least 4 loads of clothes a week, plus 2 loads of towels, a load of sheets... and 2-3 loads of diapers ;( i work 3-12 hour shifts a week too so it just adds up

I just have one 3 year old, lol! I work 5 days a week and two of them are 11 hrs, it sucks. I do ALL of my cleaning on the weekend. DH does do the dishes during the week though, that's the only thing I have trouble with. I do three loads of clothes and one load of towels a week and then I'll do sheets every other week.
