Quoting Minion:" I think there's already a petition going. Let me try to find it."

Please do, I found this whole thing to be particularly offensive. I'm writing an email in complaint to the channel, not that it'll do much good...

It helps me vent damn it.

Fox News was also behind a stupidity-filled tirade over the U.S. Military adding the Pentacle to their list of approved symbols for headstones in 2007.

I'm trying to find the link to that.

Here's what I sent. I feel a little better at least, this got me pretty heated.

I would like to make a complaint against a portion of your channel that aired 2/17/13. I believe they called it the PC police, and they were discussing Wicca and Paganism beliefs. In case your executives can't remember it, here's the bit I'm talking about.

http://youtu.be/Gm41k7tNhVI

Firstly, your reporters need to get their facts straight. For a true follower of Wicca, there is no MAIN holiday. We celebrate many holidays, but we often do not take the whole day off to do whatever. Many times, the celebration of faith is simply the same as a Christian going to church on Christmas. It's about celebrating your faith with fellow minded people and believers. We do not celebrate Halloween as a holiday, We celebrate the feast of the dead, Samhain, which falls on October 31. Halloween as it is NOW is a warped caricature of what it used to be when it was called All Hallow's Eve and celebrated as such by the Pagans/Wiccans.

Second, there are more Wicca followers and Pagans in this country than these people think, and Paganism is one of the oldest religions, outdating even Christianity as an organized religion. To say that we can only practice our faith because of the traditions in this country is absurd, we originated in many other countries, in many forms, predominantly in Ireland and England, and in Greece and Rome.

Saying what was said about these religions was hateful intolerance. If someone had said something derogatory towards Christian, Jewish, or Muslim faiths, there would be an outcry, but because these people believe that the majority of followers of Wicca or Paganism are "all Wiccans and Pagans either are Dungeons and Dragons nerds or overweight menopausal women who's been divorced more than twice. " is incredibly offensive. I've been a Wiccan since I was a young child, it's our paternal family's traditional religion of choice. If I can have respect for other religions, and exercise some tolerance, so can your news casters.

There should be a formal apology to the members of these faiths that they insulted so freely. Your newscasters put their feet down their throats with what they said, they need to publicly apologize for it. I think more than THAT should be done, but since whatever retribution would be on television, there's nothing more I guess that can be done about it. A public apology however is MORE than reasonable to ask for.

Thank you. Sincerely,

Christmas has some parts of the pagan holiday of Yule in it. Christmas itself is not a Pagan holiday. Yule is the holiday Pagans celebrate, and we do so on Dec 21.

Easter is also not one of the main pagan holidays, it may have some traditions stolen from the pagan holidays, but that's true for many of the Christian rituals for holidays. We have Ostara in March, on the 21, and Beltane on May 1. Ostara, also called Eostar, is what's closest to the Christian Easter.

Are you? That's awesome, I've noticed lately more and more Wiccans are 'coming out of the closet', so to speak. Since there was so much intolerance and hatred towards it years ago, although, it seems it's not as gone as it seems.

Easter its self is named after a pagan deity.
Christmas has wayyyy more than yule related to paganism like the worship of a tree and putting offerings under it... the date it falls on is the birthdate of tamuz.

Quoting Mama♡MoriYah :]:" <blockquote><b>Quoting ღFrodoliciousღ:</b>" Christmas has some parts of ... [snip!] ... to paganism like the worship of a tree and putting offerings under it... the date it falls on is the birthdate of tamuz."

But Easter as it is called is still a Christian holiday, celebrating the rise of Christ. And Christmas is the Christian holiday celebrating the birth of Christ. As I said, they have stolen the traditions of the Pagan holidays but they are NOT the same thing. And Easter and Eostar are two different things completely, that take place 2 different times of the same month. Easter is, this year, March 31, and Ostara/Eostar is March 21.

ETA: Christmas does not have Yule making it related to Paganism, Yule is a Pagan holiday...

I live in the Bible Belt, so hateful an ignorant comments are common around here. I had no idea a news channel would go that low, though.
I've even been threatened to have my kids taken away.

A vast majority of the christmas holiday is taken from pagans. The 12 days of christmas, the nativity scene, the fat jolly man... Yule isn't just celebrated on the 21st, it's a 12 day festivity that the average day used to be celebrated on the 25th of December. I mean, even the christmas "Santa" is said to be St Nicholas, but why does he need 2 days out of a month? (Dec. 6th).

Sorry, a pointless rant, this whole christmas issues gets my panties in an unnecessary twist. lol

I'm a Norse Paganist. Fox News is about as informative and understanding as the News channels in China. All I can say is that I can't wait to see what Jon Stewart says about this.

You too, huh? I live in the bible belt too, so I feel you. You remember Jerry Falwell? Yeah, he lived an hour or so from here and he died and had his funeral about an hour and 20 minutes from here. THAT'S a bible belt, we call Lynchburg 'Jerryland' and there are so many Falwell followers here still, even after his passing, that it's ridiculous. He was like the pope of the east coast...

That sounds terrible, but you have to live here and deal with the people who followed this man like he was his own religion... and the way they treated Pagans and homosexuals and foreigners was atrocious...
