James and the Giant Peach

posted 18th Feb
SO and I decided instead of going on vacation, we're both going to get tattoos. I decided I want a James and The Giant Peach theme sleeve (it has a lot of importance to me). I have about $600 to spend, but... that will not cover the cost of the tattoo. So I plan on getting it all outlined, and then maybe one or two characters finished, but will slowly add to the piece.

That being said, I don't want TOO much and have the tattoo be too chaotic. I definitely want the main characters and the peach:

And the shark

But would adding in his evil aunts be too much? And be out of theme since they aren't cartoon looking? I have no problem using my whole arm for the piece, just don't want it cluttered. If anyone could give me some opinions on that

My kids love that movie
I wouldn't add the evil aunts, for the reasons you said.
Unless they were small and like 'off in the background' somehow.

It's my favorite childhood movie   My sister and I adore it. But yeah... SO was saying something about having them in a fire pit. But I'm like.... what? That has NOTHING to do with the book/movie, lol.

haha it really doesn't.
i'm picturing if like, the other characters were done with a darker background behind them, the aunts being part of that background, but just shaded in- so no hard outline on them, so they really just blend in with the background.

Yeah I think I'm gonna leave 'em out. I'm just trying to figure out placement. Obviously I want the characters big enough so they can be detailed... so they can't all be standing on the peach. But if I put in the shark, there has to be the ocean... and I can't put them in blank space next to the peach because it'll look like they're floating in air, lol. UGH.

So kind of like a shadow behind them all? That sounds neat

Yes! SO's artist is amazing. He's pricey... but totally worth it.

And I'll probably do that. I've only gotten tattooed by him once... and we went in and told him what we wanted (no pictures to base the idea off of) and he drew this up in about 20 minutes:

Eeeep I'm excited!

Talk it out with your artist! They will be the best at coming up with the placement and theme. That will be soooo cool, I've thought about a James and the giant peach tattoo, I love that movie.

I sent him a message on Facebook with the pictures and everything   He's pretty good at coming up with unique designs.

Doesn't it sound awesome, though?! When it finally popped in my head, I was like.... oh smurf. This will be AMAZING

Yes it will! Especially if your artist is good at new age smurf, the really colorful and bold smurf, it'll be amazing.

OMG. I totally forgot about the rhino. I'm actually going up to his shop today for a consultation and he's gonna trace my arm for it all. He's excited to do the tattoo, because it was one of his favorite books as well. I'll have to mention doing the rhino in the clouds! Thanks
