am i nuts?

i have often been getting disoriented, almost like dementia for several moments while driving places i know very well. it happens often enough for me to want to ask about it-i all of a sudden dont recognize where i am, even places i know very well absolutely nothing looks familiar. it will last for 5secs to a minute.


just now i turned onto my own street. i seriously was about to turn around because as i drove i didnt recognize anything i saw, i felt like i was in a part of the city i didnt know. i thought i seriously turned down the wrong street. i drove a little longer and saw the entrance to the resort.

this happens on the way to work sometimes too, i will all of a sudden think i drove too far because none of this looks familiar.
I think it might happen when im not driving too, but then it doesn't impact me as much because well...im not driving. but i honestly forget people names ive known forever, things like this...


am i nuts? is this something to worry about?

Have you ever had any thyroid issues?

I would talk to your Dr, that's pretty scary.

I wouldn't say you are nuts but that isn't normal. How old are you, if you don't mind me asking?

I had that issue. I couldn't find my way home, remember how to read, my birthdate etc.

I was at first diagnosed with pseudo dementia and then later found out its related to my Hughes syndrome ( which also causes pre e and recurrent miscarraige in case you have had either)

idk about the thyroid issues, never been tested or anything.
i was thinking about asking my doc but i guess i would have to find one first lol. haven't seen a primary in years...

are these signs of thyroid issues?

Uncontrolled hypothyroidism can lead to dementia, but it's treatable. It was just a thought. I'd definitely mention it to your doctor. Something isn't right.

names yes....all the time. never really had a mind for it though.
i just called a friend by the wrong name and he got all pissed off lol. took a good 30 seconds to remember his real name. :/

Yeah I am now. It was scary for a few months. If get lost going to the store down the road. Forget to pick up my daughter and I'm only 21.

Pseudo dementia is like dementia but brought on by depression and once on anti depressants should go away completely.

This. Definitely sounds like something neurological. Could even be mini seizures.

google is confusing me on this one.

i am tired now, but i have driven much more than i do now a day. i used to drive 1.5 hrs to work and then back again after a 12 hour shift. that was harsh. i dont do that now, 20 min commute and 8 hours flat.
but on the way to work? i mean...im not like exhausted or anything. not real stressed either. although i am also having some issues with anxiety as well, not sure where thats coming from either. absolutely no conflict in my life right now...
