Traveling with newborn?

posted 17th Feb
I'm debating on moving to a new state and was wondering just how bad it is to travel 1500 miles with a newborn? Is it complete hell? The reason I would want to do it after she is born is because I wouldn't feel comfortable with a new doctor and new hospital. Would it just be better to do it before? Obviously not in the third trimester but before then?

I had to travel I think almost 3 or 400 miles to get home from having DD. It made a long trip longer and it was hard going in places to change her. Plus I was BFing and felt awkward in public with a 2 day old who was just learning to eat; so I had to sit in the car to do it. I'd say if you could before to try that. But it's all about your comfort level, and how you feel handling normal newborn stuff plus a long trip and setting into a new place.

I would absolutely do it before hand. Having a newborn is tiring and crazy enough, I wouldn't want to add moving into the mix. Then that's also extra stuff you would have to move with you. I would move and get situated so you have a home for you and baby to go the when she's born.

Well, it wouldn't be such a new place. It'd be with SO's parents until we got a place over there. I like my doctor so much though I don't knowww!

I agree with the rest of the ladies that say before. We moved 33 weeks before we had Dd, and that was miserable enough. I couldn't imagine driving thay far with a newborn.

plan stopping every hour to hour and a half. My kids hated long car rides. We lived in upstate NY and would go on little weekend trips. after about an hour, my son had enough of his car seat and we'd have to take a good 15-30 min break.
