Bible Verses and Male Genitalia

posted 17th Feb
I wonder how many Israelite women were missing their hands for engaging in this activity....

"If two Israelite men get into a fight and the wife of one tries to rescue her husband by grabbing the testicles of the other man, you must cut off her hand. Show her no pity. - Deuteronomy 25:11-12

Maybe the men folk were afraid that this would happen and they wouldn't be able to go to church anymore.....

No one whose testicles are crushed or whose male organ is cut off shall enter the assembly of the Lord. - Deuteronomy 23:1

Why weren't they allowed into the Lord's assembly... I don't get it... They don't have their man parts intact... big whoop.

And then there is this... why is this in the Bible? haha

Yet she increased her prostitution, remembering the days of her youth when she engaged in prostitution in the land of Egypt. She lusted after their genitals as large as those of donkeys, and their seminal emission was as strong as that of stallions. - Ezekial 23:19-20

I would hate to have lived back then when women were worth so little.

This is an example of why I don't consider the bible the word of God. Men wrote it and I don't believe for a second that God ever encouraged or participated in any form of cruelty against people.

Their man parts were so valuable that you'd get your hand lopped off if you tried to grab someone's in a fight but women were treated like smurf....

(Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NLT)

If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.

How about we cut his dick off and have no mercy? Instead you have to marry your rapist because he paid your father 50 pieces of silver for the privilege.

It's a history book. It tells of the "goings on". Many parts aren't "instructional"...and...The new Testament changed things. These were the laws before Jesus came and although the laws are unchanged, God knew that we couldn't keep all the laws in the Bible so He sent a redeemer to believe in and to trust. Jesus covers those laws. The old testament is HISTORY. The New Testament is LIVING and should be followed to this day.

Romans 7:6

But now we are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code.

I can accept that it is history but a lot of what is said in the OT is said to be straight from God. And God doesn't change. So God still feels about these things like he did back then, right? How women were treated and about wearing polyester cotton blends and eating swine and shrimp...

It just feels like the way the story goes, Jesus rescues us from God. Like God is some very scary guy who is going to come kill all of us but Jesus stepped in and saved us. I don't like to think about a God I have to be saved from. I mean, we are told that God is loving and merciful in one breath and then in the next we hear about being thrown in a fiery pit of doom and despair unless we believe in him and do what he says.

I know God is beyond our human ability to perceive him fully but I am just so... idk...

And I am really not trying to be disrespectful in any way.

LOL what the hexagon!?

I don't know why people try to follow the bible literally, it was written by several people, not god. Which is why I only literally follow the 10 commandments, which were written by God.

You're right. God doesn't change. He despises the things just
as much as He did then. Even Jesus says that He didn't come to change one iota of the law, but to fulfill it. I guess you could say that God gave us laws that He knew we couldn't keep so that when we realized we couldn't, we'd depend and believe in Jesus. Jesus DOES save us from God's wrath. That is the whole point. Jewish laws were specifically for the Jews, so that they'd be seen as "different". Some of the laws seemed silly, but they were puroseful for the time. For instance, illness could be caused (even death) by eating shrimp. The shrimp caught came from bodies of water that were nearly stagnate, where bacteria could take hold and flourish. It's not like today, with all of our technology that could kill such bacteria. It was for their own safety. Also, things like growing a beard or hair were done so that visually, the Jews were completely different than the rest of the population. To this day, you can easily recognize an Orthodox Jew, simply by how they look.

...and I really don't think you are ever disrespectful. No disclaimer needed.
