Never had an abortion, but I would assume they would need to do an ultrasound first to date your pregnancy and make sure that you aren't further along than expected. They can only do the pill up to a certain amount of weeks gestation. After that it has to be surgical.

Why would someone need an ultrasound?

I didn't go thru planned parent hood. But my Dr. Gave me an injection in the hip, then 3 days later gave me a pill.

They always have to do an ultrasound. They need to find out exactly how far along you are, especially since the pill only works until a certain point

Yes you would still need the ultrasound to make sure that you are still within the time frame to go with the pill method.

You would still need an ultrasound no matter which method you use. Some women don't know or lie about how far along they are. They have to make sure.

Ultrasound is a have to but you shouldnt have to wait to get an ultrasound if your going in for an abortion....If you are asking about the plan B pill which btw is not for abortions you dont need an ultrasound at all ...If you just dont want to see or have to think about the ultrasound when you go in for your pill you can state that you want no association and they can accomidate by turning the screen and keeping the volume off etc. assuming your within the time frame for the pill it will be a quick process to date your pregnancy and get your apt going....most planned parenthoods will actually send you to another womens health center and its not actually done there but everywhere is different call and make your apt and state how you wish for things to go there is no guilt for this its understandable and any health prof knows this and will help you

THE further along you are, the more difficult the procedure gets. They need to know what they're doing so there are no mistakes

I'm sorry you're going through this but they really need to do the ultrasound to make sure you're still earlier enough for the pill. Just close your eyes and block out ears while they are doing it. This early on it will be an transvaginal one just so you can be prepared. Did you talk to your doctor to see if he/she will prescribe you something?? Did you check with your insurance shot coverage too? I'm really hoping you can get this all sorted out in the next couple days.

Doesn't matter where you go or what method you take. They need to do an ultrasound to date the pregnancy.
