Buying second hand.

posted 17th Feb
Would you ever consider buying used baby bottles? I saw someone selling them on a buy swap sell site & I just don't think I could do it. I'm not snobby when it comes to snagging a great second hand bargain but the thought just irked me. Also second hand cloth diapers, I know people resell but I personally couldn't put anything but brand new on my babies butt for some reason. Maybe I'm weird? I dunno.

What are items for your baby (or older children, or yourself even) that you would absolutely never buy second hand?

I could understand buying used baby bottles and buying new nipples. Definitely no used cloth diapers. No used car seats and no used crib bedding. The concept of used sheets creeps me out so why would I want my kid to use them.

I agree about the cloth diapers. I couldn't do that no matter Howe many times it's been sterilized. Baby bottles on ether other hand I could if it's a bottle I know my daughter would use. We can always uy new nipples and/or sterilize the whole thing, but I'd like them in pretty good condition and from a clean home.

Yeah I would have no problem with it ... would just buy new nipples (or whatever they're called) at K-Mart or somewhere.

Cloth diapers... no. That is like buying myself used underwear that has been smurf and pissed in. No matter how sterilized it is I couldn't do it, especially not for my kid. Bottles, yes and I have and saved alot on Avent bottles. Boiled the bottles and bought new nipples and all was well. Used binkys gross me out. I have seen alot of people selling them on our local buy/swap/sell site on facebook and I just don't understand. I would just toss them. I would never get a used car seat. Or a potty training seat. Never used stuffed animals or furry toys (paranoid of lice ect). Thats all I can think of right now...

people buy used cloth diapers all the time. You're not selling them with poop on them! lol They are all cleaned very well. Brand new cloth diapers can be very very expensive. Buying used is one of the best ways to go and no, I don't see anything wrong with it. I also don't see it the same as selling used adult underwear.

Depends if I know the person or not. If it's a friend yeah, I'll buy them (bottles). One of my friends lent me her breast pump for my first pregnancy until I bought my own. From someone on a buy swap and sell site, negative.

i'd get second hand bottles, but i'd get new teats for them.
i'd get second hand cloth nappies too. i'd try and view them before buying though, make sure they're clean and all that. brand new cloth nappies are silly money! lol.

i'd never buy a used cot mattress or cot sheets though. or a second hand breast pump. lol. x

Almost all of Johanna's bottles were second-hand. I just bought new nipples.

The only thing I would NOT buy second hand is anything that goes in a baby's mouth.

I would buy bottles second hand but I would replace the nipples. I never did cloth diapers so I don't know if I would or not but I have heard they are expensive so maybe. I wouldn't buy a used carseat from someone I did not know or teething rings.

I would and have bought them. I would not buy used nipples though. I can't think of much (normal stuff anyway) that u wouldn't buy used other than panties for myself. I have bought used for my kids though. Idk, I think it's different for kids. And when we were going through potty training? No way I'd waste money on a bunch of underwear that would get ruined.

I have used second hand clothes for LO but I know where they come from. Idk why but even if I washed them, bought second hand clothes, I wouldn't feel comfortable. It's silly but I just don't feel comfortable.

I've bought second hand nappies. I only use itti Bitti and I've missed out on limited edition prints I just HAVE to have. As long as they're not stained and in excellent condition.
I've also bought second hand bottles because my baby only takes one kind and they've discontinued them. The bottles she had were Islas old bottles and they started to leak. I tried ther bottles but aura just refused them.
I've bought a second hand breast pump

What wouldn't I buy? Ummm. I'm going to say undies lol but then what's the difference between undies and nappies?
But yea I'm still sticking with undies.
I haven't bought a second hand carseat but I hired auras baby capsule. And I've sold carseats.

Oh and I wouldn't use a second hand mattress.
