re: teen and saying NO

posted 17th Feb
What does being a teen have to do with anything? TBH, this is the first time I hear this. A nurse will always encourage moms (teen or older, first time or sixth time) to breastfeed. They will however NOT pressure you.

If you have a reason like, I don't know how to breastfeed or my breasts are too big to breastfeed they'll help you.

Yeah I did try constantly for 3 months ( I was pumping and bottle feeding) went to classes had a bfeeding nurse but ds just would not want a bar of it, he even struggled with his bottle but I will say the nurses did try, he was prem but so was my first born and he fed really well so I cant say that was the issue.
I guess if I hadnt succesfully breast fed my first born then I would have given up after day two of trying.
I can understand how some first time mothers (young or not) that are not correctly informed about bfeeding would hear storys like this from family or friends and make a decision not to bfeed based on it.

Vws. And for USA mums. We don't get free formula here.
I did breast feed, but I have no opinion on another woman's choice.
I didn't feel pressured but I was never even told formula was an option.

Ok ONE - i dont need free formular, i have formular, bottles, sterlizer, and everything else, even the stuff they havnt told me to bring im going to.

TWO- im not being selfish, and me being a teen has fricken nothing to do with my choice or my child. God im sick of the teen = bad horrible mum.

I wanted to feed her just for the first time just to have my moment with her, i dont want to breast feed not for the fact i was told your boobs sag more just. For the fact im not comfortable with it, and no that doesnt mean im putting myself first just because i dont want to breast feed. My family have never breast fed and we were all healthy babies and never had any problems. I just wantes to know how i should re-act with the pressure that they will put on me. the nurses are very different at the hostpital im going to and are strongly for BF, they pushed my sister into breast feeding with her child and would yell at her and tell her she is a horriable mother until she gave in and did it. Its not right and i will not stand for it, i will stand up and say something. It is my baby, and my choice

Bullsmurf, Bullsmurf, Bullsmurf.

No nurse nor doctor will ever yell in your face or tell you you're a horrible mother for not BF. They can get reported, sometimes sued and their licence can be revoked for it.

If being a teen has nothing with you BF and you're so "sick" of the whole a teen mom is a bad mom smurf, why the smurf do you label yourself as a teen and name this thread "Teen and saying NO"?

Quoting ~mama~:" Just tell them that you don't want to and they will give you formula. "
actually most hospitals here do not supply formula if you choose not to breastfeed.
nurses here in australia are very pro breastfeeding and try and talk you into doing it.

my boobs did not sag, it just depends on how big they are mine were small and are now slightly bigger than before i was pregnant, but if your boobs are going to sag it will be from pregnancy.

If you aren't going to breastfeed after that first one, then why even bother with the first one? You will still have "your moment" with your baby, but I don't see the point of doing something once in the hospital that you aren't going to do regularly. It can be really hard to breast feed that first time, and it can be frustrating as hell. Trying for that first time and not having it go as well as you think it's going to can actually ruin that moment you are trying to have. If you are going exclusively formula for whatever reason, do that from the very beginning.

Breast is best. Your boobs sag from spreading your legs amd getting knocked up. If you don't want to breastfeed tell them whem you get to the hospital. . They pressure you because they know it's best.

Bullsmurf. you are not comfortable BFing but you want to BF once  . Your the one throwing your youth into the equation "teen and saying NO" remember? And I don't think being a teen equals being a bad mom. I think it equals being selfish and inexperience and naive which you obviously are. That is exactly why everyone told you they will pressure you in the hospital because they know Bfing is the best thing for you baby.

Why would you forgo giving your child the food that it was literally designed to have in favor of synthetic crap made from the derivatives of another animal's milk with some multivitamins thrown in? Saying you're not comfortable with it and you're not going to do it because your family doesn't breastfeed is a cop-out. It's healthier for your baby, it's healthier for you. There is a reason that nurses encourage moms to breastfeed-and it's not because they enjoy looking at your teenage boobs. They know what's best for your baby, and they want to help you to give it the best start possible.
