I have not had a Beco - but I've had a Mei Tai & Ergo & Ergo is hand down far easier to puton/take off & get baby into & is much easier on my petite frame. I even carried my nearly 50 lb 5 yr old last year through Disney in it at the end of the day (my younger one had fallen asleep in the stroller & we wanted to stay for fireworks. So I walked probably a mile wearing him & at the time I weighed around 100 lbs (his feet were hitting the backs of my knees - crazy momma that I am sometimes) and he was almost 50lbs. My thighs burned from the extra weight, but my back felt fine. THAT Is how good the Ergo is at distributing weight when adjusted right (and my 5 yr old fell asleep on my shoulder).

And the Beco butterfly panel looks okay & maybe handy in some ways, but I never tried one (and I have owned about 16 carriers) because I felt like it would get in the way of nursing, which I found I did a LOT in my carriers). So that is why i never bought a Beco & tried it.

My favorite carrier for a small baby is a Moby type stretchy wrap & for a baby after the first few months, an Ergo, by far. I have sold & given away a lot of my carriers, but until menopause & I am sure I wont' have another I'll keep my Ergo. I have also given away my Arm's Reach Cosleeper - and my high chair & a ton of other stuff...so that really IS how much I wouldn't go without an Ergo. To me, my baby needs are boobs,, some type of diaper, a place for baby to sleep, a carseat & an Ergo. I put it right in there with those other things because I have used it THAT much.

I have a Manduca, which is very similar to an Ergo and I love, love, love it. Great for little babies to toddlers and even bigger.

I already have two moby wraps for when the baby is little! I wouldn't feel 'safe' putting my newb in an ergo. I was worried that the panel with the beco would get in the way of nursing. Last night I was torn on ergo and beco but I think I'll get the ergo.

I think the Ergo has a "newborn insert" that you can add to it, to fit newborn size. The Manduca I have, has one built in. I used it a few times with Leo as a newborn, but then ended up using the Baby Bjorn for the first few weeks. I know they don't recommend the Baby Bjorn any more, but I think in the first few weeks, used occasionally it's not that bad since they are still so small.
