how does deductible and copays work? do you pay full price for doc visits until your deductible is up or do you pay the 35% co pay until your limit then pay deductible?

You pay full price for everything until the deductible is paid.

Quoting Captain Obvious:" You pay full price for everything until the deductible is paid."

for the places that have sliding scale do they let you use that while you are still on deductible?

You'll pay full price but typically you get a 'discount' for having insurance. My son's recent hospital visit was for $428 but since they billed through our insurance the rates they can charge are lower. Our responsibility was only $302 so we got a $126 discount basically.

with the amount of doc visits my husband makes (...none) I think i think it would just be easier and cheaper to go without insurance and use sliding scale. or get insurance that you have in case of emergencies like urgent care visits, hospital stays, etc.
the reason he doesnt go to the doc is because it would cost to much in his mind. but if I am paying over $100 a month, and still have to pay a $7,000-$10,000 deductible, which we probably wont even go through in a year, what the hell is the point? *sigh*

What kind of visits does he make? There is a lot that is covered by insurance and would really just leave you with a co-pay.

right now he doesnt make any visits because he doesnt have insurance. most of the insurance plans I have seen say you must pay deductible for office visits. the only thing thats covered is stuff like immunizations. and with premiums of $130 + $7k deductible, our doc office only charges a MAX of $50 per visit.....

I think I found something more locally based that will give us a lower premium and deductible though. fingers crossed there is no wait line.

I have bc/bs and my premium is $103 a month with a $1500 deductible and no copay. Bcbs discounts most charges by about 30% and my yearly gyn appointment is no cost to me even before I meet my deductible as well as a yearly physical with my pcp

Find someone who sells insurance in your area. We pay $294 for three people with bcbs, a local broker helped us pick a plan.
