Is it normal?

posted 16th Feb
I'm 18 weeks, and the last 2-3 days I have been feeling my heart POUNDING even when I'm just sitting still. Is this something that is normal, or should I have cause for concern? This is my 2nd baby, but with my DS I was 100lbs smaller, so I didn't have these issues.

Your body gains so much blood volume it is ridiculous. So your heart has to work that much harder. It wouldn't hurt to talk to your doctor about it though.

Do you have any history of high blood pressure? What you're describing CAN be a harmless pregnancy symptom, I had it on occasion, but it could also be an indicator of high blood pressure or pre-e so it's definitely something to mention. If its happening more than once every couple of days, I'd call in now rather than waiting for your next appointment.

Well then I'll ask my OB on Thursday when I see her. If it gets worse, I'll def. call. I just wasn't expecting it.

I had the same thing w my 2nd ... not constantly but every once and a while my heart felt like it was going to jump out of my chest! I would ask your dr bc they know you best but mine said it was pretty common. I had good blood pressure the whole pregnancy and the racing heart feeling stopped for me just after the second trimester started! Hopefully it does for you too!

Happens to me all the time. It's usually worse when I haven't drank enough water, so make sure you're staying hydrated.

ETA: It was so bad one night that I went to the ER. They did an EKG, which was normal. They gave me a liter of IV fluid, which helped a little. No one seemed concerned about it.
