4.5 year old step son

We just got custody of my husbands son from a previous relationship.
That being said I'm having a very difficult time with him. He drives me crazy. I feel bad cause he was living with his mothers grandparents and we don't know how they treated him. But geez he says things like "if you don't stop I'm not eating"
Wtf what do you do to a kid to make him say things like that
This is mostly just a rant. But I may need help coping with his ways.

That sounds like a normal 4-5 year old. My son says some crazy things some times. I just deal with it the appropriate way. Have you tried asking him what is wrong? Also you have to realize that things are completely different for him right now. He went from living with grandparents to living with his father and his SO. Have patience with him!!!

Kids that age can be twats sometimes. It's normal. The whole I'm not eating routine probably worked with his grandparents. Just show him lots of love and respect. Does he see his bio mom at all?

Yeah you're probably right.
Not since we got custody. She's been in jail.

You have to lay down the law. I have a 6 yo step daughter and she success me batty most of the time we have her. Her mom is absent so when she's with her mom she spends time with her grandparents. They have no boundaries, rules or any form of.consistency. It's hard but you have to find.something that he loves and remove it from him. I send her to her room a lot, because she wants to be around people. It usually lasts 15 or so minutes. But i feel your pain she's a big cry baby all the time, which sucks because we already have a baby and one on the way.
