you know that not all parents are dickheads, right? Most of the parents would want to know and support the child. I would NEVER accept that someone performed a health procedure on my 10,11,12,13,14,15 year-old child without my consent. Period. I don't think any parents would want that, either. It's their child. And young teens have no idea what they're into it. They need psychological therapy and lots of support, something they won't get if they're doing it all by themselves.

You really don't understand. it is not meant for the parents to say yes or no. It is simply meant for them to know and be able to offer support if they want to. It's still their child. Period.

Well, I guess those parents should watch over their kids better so they don't end up pregnant in the first place.

You will never convince me that it is okay for a young child to have such an invasive procedure and just go home like nothing happened. There are physical risks and even worse, emotional risks.

If a parent of a 10 year old refuses to consent and they feel that the parents aren't acting in the best interest of the child they can get Social Services involved. They do this for a lot of reasons and would apply to this situation. But just simply giving a young girl and abortion and sending her on her back home to deal with it alone, is wrong.

A 10 year old shouldn't be giving birth. It carries huge risks to both mom and baby. Some parents are neglectful and abusive and would force a child to go through with such a thing simply because they want their child to suffer. Sad but true. You can bet that's what kind of parents they are if they're letting their child get pregnant. That or its a family member's child of rape. I dont care how young they are, they should not need parental consent to have an abortion because any sane parent should be supportive of their child not wanting to continue a pregnancy and risk their health.

No it leaves that opportunity for the parents to say no and force their child to go through with a severely risky pregnancy and then they gain a huge responsibility that emotionally a child couldn't handle. Not all parents are gun ho about abortion. They may be our children but we don't own their bodies, especially in a situation like this. NOT all parents know best, they know their beliefs.

and... what if said 10 year old did NOT choose to ahve sex? what if she were raped.. and afraid to tell who did it? or.. as nursemaya said.. what if it were the father? what if she's afraid for her life, afraid to have somewhere to live.. afraid she'd be forced to ahve the baby?

yes but by law you are not allowed to know that - HIPPA violation for you to be told. get over it, you can't control a child 100% of the time

Clearly, but someone has to protect those children without a voice. And furthermore, if you were a good, caring parent you would know that your child had an abortion. How else would a 10 year old get to the hospital and be gone for the procedure without you noticing? I know where my kids are at all times. A teenager I could see sneaking off for it, but truly,I dont think the parents should have any say in whether or not their teenager wants to abort.

and... all parents mgiht not be a dickhead.. but the fact that you think a child shouldn't be able to ahve a necessary abortion... makes YOU one.

no.. consent is permission. that's what it means. and... by mandating consent.. it allows the parent to force their child to carry a baby... or.. forces them into a psychological turmoil where they may harm themselves while trying to get rid of the fetus
