How to put an end to 'baba.'

posted 15th Feb
I am seriously at a loss with my 14 month old, I have tried getting him off the bottle FOR BED since he turned a year and I have had NO luck. We went to sippy cups, we went cold turkey, we tried water (all he wanted was milk) which he didn't like.. now it's all he wants at night too. It wouldn't be so bad if he took a bottle and slept for the night, but he is up all night like a newborn. I'm so exhausted. I definitely need to get him off before the new arrival in August, but this kid is getting the best of me. I work early in the morning so if he is up screaming all night I cave and give him it. *bad, bad, I know* But it's the only way I can function for work. I need some tips on how to wean him off. I want a *decent* nights sleep for once.

I just stopped the bottle cold turkey. One day I just gave him a cup and that was the end of it. Put all the bottles in a cupboard and there they've sat since and that was almost 2 months ago. My LO is 15 months but he didn't give me a hard time when I gave him a cup.

I think you need to just not cave for a few nights and hide all bottles. Don't give in. You may be tired for a few days but you have to do it eventually.

Try a different kind of sippy cup. We went from bottles to a soft tip sippy and eventually a hard tip sippy.

Or. If u work throughout the week, when u come home on a friday, if u have someone to help u watch the LO, take a nap. Then that night ull be rested and u wont cave as easily. Same thing for saturday. If ur lucky then by the time sunday clmes around hell know ur not gonna cave. But if u do, just try it again the next night. Even if u can only get it to work on the weekends at first hell eventually gst to where u want him to be with it.

it usually takes 3 nights of crying for the bottle before it gets better, so maybe try on a weekend when you dont have to work and just srick to your guns about it?

You cave and he knows it. A few night of one mad little guy and some screams but it will pay off. I went cold turkey with mine. I put him to bed with nothing. Then I went outside and sat on my patio. Its a lot easier if you dont hear them scream and cry. After a while he'll fall asleep. It took about 3 nights for mine to get use to the idea. Each night got a little easier and by night 4 no cries just a sleepy guy. It will get better!

I've only been getting 1 day a week off for the last month. SO works nights so it's just me and the little guy until 2 or 3 in the morning. I think we could cold turkey if my schedule wasn't so demanding all of the time. I unfortunately do not get any vacation time until I roll over in April, so that's why I was hoping weaning would work. I'm not sure how to go about it though. He is awful at night if he does not get it. He kicks, hits and tries to bite.
