Tattoos during pregnancy

Are there any risks? I've heard that you're not supposed to get tattoos when your pregnant because they take longer to heal, but are there any other reasons?

Risk of infection. Tattoo artists aren't supposed to tattoo you if you are pregnant.

Infection. And anywhere that will tattoo a pregnant woman isn't somewhere you need to be anyway.

You're more prone to infection during pregnancy and its an open wound so it's suseptible to infection and if you get an infection, it can be harmful to baby.

Any reputable tattoo artist will not tattoo a woman he knows is pregnant or breasteeding.

A reputable tattoo artist won't tattoo a pregnant woman. Pregnancy isn't that long in comparison to the forever of a tattoo, so why not wait?

In Texas, it's illegal to tattoo a pregnant women because of the risk of infection to the fetus.

This its not just skin infection either, tbh i would wait till you have finished BF too

I got one on my arm while i was pregnant. It hurt alot more but really they just wont do it from risk of infection and if you DO get infected they obviously dont want to be sued.

Yea, I'm nursing and pregnant right now. My SO is a tattoo artist, not professional. I've been putting off getting a tattoo for 2 years because I'm always pregnant or nursing or both. lol He doesn't want to give me one while Im pregnant, but I thought I could talk him into it if the only risk was the healing process. I guess I'll be waiting for another 2-3 years though.

There's a risk for infection, excessive scarring and ink rejection. Plus the colours may not come out right.

I wouldn't let my SO give a a tattoo if he wasnt a professional period. You have to live with that tattoo forever.

That all sounds awful. I would not run any of those risks. You know, I've been putting off a tattoo for about 3 years now, and yeah it's a bummer but oh well, I am looking at another 2+ years for this pregnancy and another round of breastfeeding. My body will still be there for a tattoo after all that is over. Then I can get all the ones I have planned. No sense in risking it.
