Your immune system is suppressed during pregnancy, so you're a lot more prone to infection. Also, I'm sure you trust the person who does your tattoos...but I'd be nervous about anyone putting any sort of needle near my skin (diseases and such) while I'm growing a life, it's just not worth the risk. Not to mention, I think you'd have a hard time convincing a tattoo artist to do one while you're pregnant, and If you
were able to convince him/her that would be a reason right there to run for the hills...because it's clearly unethical.
I'm all for tattoos...I have a lot, but not while you're pregnant. It's only 9 months, you can wait

I could talk him into it if the only risk was the healing process. I guess I'll be waiting for another 2-3 years though."</blockquote>

Your boyfriend or not, pregnant or not, Breastfeeding or not, you shouldn't be letting a nonprofessional, unlicensed tattoo artist tattoo you.

I would hate to be stuck with a bad tattoo because I went to someone unlicensed.

I got my arm tattooed while pregnant. It was more painful than my others but I think that was just because of the location (inner, upper arm). Healing was simple, and the ink still looks great 2 years later. I did read about 100 different articles before I did it...everything turned out perfect for me.

You're lucky and you should not be advising anyone to do something potentially dangerous. That's irresponsible.

I'm curious to know how on Earth you found a reputable, properly licensed and certified artist to tattoo you while pregnant (unless you didn't tell them.)

And it's not really a good idea to be saying "oh it turned out great for me" when every reputable source will say don't do it.

I second that. Putting your wants ahead of all the potential risks when doing something like that. Tattoos can wait until the risk is minimal.

Increased chance of hiv and other blood bourne illness. You can not get tattooed or pierced while peregnant. Not to mention they can get infected and harm the baby.

Also while pregnant your blood volume increases by 50% which can cause increased bleeding

If I made a decision that stupid (although I like to give myself more credit that that), I would not be telling everyone on a public preg/parenting forum and I would most certainly not be encouraging someone to follow my lead!
