Anti Anxiety Meds

Ok, some of you may have read my previous thread about being prescribed Xanax for my GAD and Panic Disorder. Well, Xanax was not a good drug for me. It was like I was not taking anything at all. I hear so many people say how awesome and relaxing it is but apparently not for me. I had no relief whatsoever.
I had an anxiety attack yesterday morning and my Doctor's office does not open until 2pm so DH drove me to the ER.
The ER Doc gave me a shot of ativan and then a prescription for some 1mg ativan tablets.
So far this one works tons better than the Xanax. People get addicted to Xanax? I certainly would like to know from what because I could not even tell I took anything. The Ativan is a very noticeable calm and relaxing feeling.
I do feel more emotional. I even sent my DH a email at work just babbling about how much I love him and how proud I am of him. Apparently the meds make me more loving and caring. I can deal with that  
Have any of you been on either/ or/ both of these meds? Which do you like better and why?

Ativan is a stronger drug, people get addicted to Ativan too. But I'm glad you found something that works for you

i have ativan too, i love it lol its very addictive though so be careful!

See, I always thought Xanax was the stronger one. I thought the Dr yesterday told me that Ativan has a longer half life than Xanax does (whatever that means). I guess Xanax hits fast and hard but doesn't last long. Ativan hits more slowly and lasts longer.
In my case, Xanax totally missed and didn't hit at all

Oh for sure. I got 1 mg 3 times a day as needed. He told me that if I feel I don't need it, don't take it. That is what I intend to do. It is so nice to feel peace. Haven't felt that in years. My DH and Kids are loving it too. Happy Mama = Happy family.

i have 1mg, 3 times a day? holy crap lol i take one pill and it knocks me out for 12 hours straight

WOW! They don't knock me out at all. The calm me and relax me. They also seem to make me a bit more sentimental and social but not tired or sleepy. I guess everyone's tolerance to drugs is different. I am glad they don't knock me out though. I have three kids and a DH to take care of.

Everybody is different. You just need to be careful. Ativan, like Xanax, has a serious physical withdrawal, so if you want to go off at any point make sure you speak to a doctor first

Yeah I was told 4 months maximum to be on any benzo. I am in counseling as well. The medicine is just a short term thing.
Yeah my Uncle died from Xanax, well Xanax and Methadone. He had been a heroin addict and I think the xanax combined with the methadone killed all his cravings. Took too much of one or both one morning and that was it. Needless to say, I am being very careful with these meds.

Xanax has stronger effects for most people but it seems like your body is different. It's great that you've found something to help you.
