Stressed *vent*

posted 15th Feb
Gah I am so stressed out! Me and SO have 5 weeks to find a place to live and we have no money because I only make $100/week and that is just enough to get a little bit of food for us to eat. We have decided that with this weeks check we are going to go get our marriage license and do it so if we do have to go to the homeless shelter, we can be together in the family shelter rather than having to go to men and women. I have already called all the housing places in the towns close by and they have at least a 1 year waiting list. No one hires SO because he is 23 and has only 6 months of work experience in his whole live. I can't find a job in the town that we live in, I am trying to get back up to the town we were in before so I can go back to my $10/hour child care job. If I could just be back up there we could afford a studio apartment. Neither of us have our licenses or a car but SO is working on that now. I feel stuck, there is like nothing I can do and I just happened to get pregnant in January. I don't want to end up at the homeless shelter, it is freezing still during the night in day in Maine and we would have to be out from like 6 am till 8-9 pm. I just don't know what to do anymore.
Sorry just needed to vent.

Why don't you go apply for public assistance? Is there someone you can stay with?

Everything has a wait list at least a year out. I just applied for food stamps so at least we will have those.
We have no one we can stay with. Right now we are staying with my dad but he is moving to Florida at the end of March, that's why i need to find a place to go.

I would probably not spend what little money you have going to get married. I would go seek public assistance, have your dude try some odd jobs. talk to friends and family.

We weren't. We quit trying , we tried for 2 years and then I got on Birth control and it didn't work out and I was in the middle of switching when I got pregnant.

where are you staying now? is there any way you can continue to stay there? ie maybe paying rent etc? has your SO applied at fast food type places and such. I understand it will probably be impossible to get a good job with no work history, but when I worked at Subway they hired anyone. or he could try temp agencies. it's not permanent work, but he could get some saved up. can't you work more often as well?

You can't move with your dad. Does your boyfriend have family?

He has filled out applications for everywhere around here, hiring or not. He has even went to the staffing places and calls them daily to see if they have anything for him.
We have no friends and my dad is moving to florida, his mom is living with someone and moving to New York soon. All that is left is his dad and he already has a full house.

I can't imagine your dad and his mom would leave you both to a homeless shelter.

They don't have enough money for us to move with them right now.
Only his mom who is moving to New york and dad who already has a full house.

Well believe it cause nothing is stopping them from moving, they both know our situation

He has already applied everywhere even staffing agencies. No my dad is moving to florida, that's where we live now.
I already work 20-40 hours a week babysitting 3 kids, all they can give me is $100 a week.

So you are like one month pregnant, have no kids, and have a boyfriend and together you make $400 a month? I am sorry, but you don't have daycare, you are 20, you don't even have crazy bills yet.

There is 0 reason your dude can't get a job, and 0 reason why you cannot find another.

sounds like you need a new job as well. even working fast food you can definitley make more than that. are you sure your SO isn't failing background checks or something? staffing agencies around here literally use felons all the time even. It's so strange that they wouldn't be getting him work. Maybe he should look into going back to school. Student grants and loans could help cover the cost of your living. (I'm not an advocate of taking out extra loans to cover things, but if it's a temporary fix and your SO really can't get any job, it might be necessary)
