worried ten month old is delayed

posted 15th Feb
hi, im new here. i have a ten month old baby girl. she is healthy and very active, is crawling and pulling herself up and saying things like mama dada yaya baba but not actually putting what mama and dada are. also i went to the drs and they had me fill out a form asking if she is doing certian things like waving bye bye, clapping, playing paticake, hitting two toys together, playing peekaboo and so on. shes not really doing any of that. i try to teach her and she just giggles and stares at me and doenst try to copy me. also she wont stand on her own, she CAN becaue when we were visiting my in laws she was distracted and was facing away from me and wasnt aware i wasnt holding her and stood for about 30 seconds unsupported. now even if im holding her hands she either bounces or sits down. that day i also noticed her cousin who is ten days younger is doing alot of stuf i mentioned very very well. she even started walking that day. another cousins baby started walking at nine months.

should i be worried she may be delayed?

No, she doesn't seem delayed at all. All children are different.

Regarding the walking/standing: She may not be ready to stand yet.

I have a 10 month old who was doing all of that at 9 months BUT every child develops differently!! If your doctor wasn't concerned I wouldn't be. I would definitely work on those skills with her though!

This. DD didn't stand or walk until 14 months or so.

Every baby develops at their own pace.
My son is 10 months old also. He can say baba, mama (I swear he said it once when he wanted to nurse), and dada, but he doesn't associate them with anything; he just babbles. He pulls himself up to standing and crawling just like your son. He can't stand on his own yet. Not even for like 10 seconds. The most he's done it for is 2-3 seconds. Most of the time when I try to work with him on it, he just picks up his feet and wants nothing to do with it. He's just not ready yet. He does hit toys together and clap, and put toys into the hole in his toys- one of these-

He plays peekaboo, but does not wave bye-bye. He can't walk either, and will only walk a step or two even with us holding his hands. He has no interest in it yet.

My niece is 14.5 months, and she doesn't walk or stand on her own yet either.

I sometimes feel the same way about my 8 month old. She waves hi and bye, can stand unsupported, and she has really good fine motor skills. But she is not crawling and doesn't really say mama or dada she says gullygullygully and some other weird stuff but that's it lol.

My niece went from nothing to walking, wav.ing, saying bye bye and momma dadda overnight. It'll click eventually just keep working with her. All kids are different, but I don't think she can be considered delayed

thanks everyone... as a former foster parent and having SN kids on both sides of my family im a bit on the paranoid side. and no the dr wasnt worried and im trying to work with her on things with her but sometimes i just dont know how. im used to teenaged deliquents not babies (i was told i couldnt have kids and we did foster care and adopted a teen boy and after my first marriage ended and i met me new husband i got pregnant unexpectedly)

every child is completely different i tried so hard to get my first son to clap his hands but he refused until after he was a year old. he still doesnt talk much and hes almost 2 he just says words here and there but thats it. I always let him take his time with things though my 5 month old is almost crawling and basically sitting up on his own already

I LOVE that noise. DS started making it around 2 months. It's the cutest thing!

Sounds fine to me. My DD isn't walking yet and she will be 13 months on the 27th. The pedi told me not to worry about the walking thing just yet. She said you worry if they can't walk when they are over 15 months old, any time up until 15 months is in the normal range. My DD didn't crawl until she was 9 almost 10 months old, she didn't sit up on her own until 6 1/2 months and stuff like that but the pedi isn't worried...I think my daughter is a little more behind than other kids because she probably has my connective tissue disorder which can make our joints kind of lax so we take longer to hit certain mile stones. I didn't sit up on my own until I was 9 months old, and I am perfectly fine. Things just vary so much from child to child.
