Tax refund sent to the wrong account. advice!?

My husband filed our tax refund online on the H&R block website and when he copy and pasted our account number it cut the last digit off but the routing number is right. I called my card and asked customer service if we had the routing number right then it would go to their bank and they said yes and that all their accounts have 16 digits so it would be sent back to the IRS. My question is if i call the IRS tomorrow and tell them about it and give them the correct account number do you think they would try to send it again or make us wait for the paper check? I can't afford to wait 8 weeks so i'm really hoping they will do that for us so that we get it sooner. Thanks for any advice!

Can you fix it on the IRS website? Refund link, maybe?

I did that a few years ago. I knew what bank account it had been sent to, and the amount. They saw the error and immediately fixed the problem.

No the money was already sent and i didn't see options for it.

So you called the IRS and they let you give a different account number? how long did it take for you to get your money?

No, I called the bank. It had been sent to the wrong bank account. Sorry. Must've read the question wrong. I'm sorry.

oh okay. well when i called the bank they said it would be a invalid account number so it would be sent back to the IRS i was just wondering how long it would take to get it when it gets sent back.

You will most likely receieve a paper check once the money gets returned and they see that they will send a check it just may take 2 weeks for the process. But it would help maybe to call them and maybe start the process sooner. the number to call is 8008291040

I did this a few weeks ago. They automatically send out a paper check.

H&R block should be able to give you one of their advances for free since they messed up. The IRS will issue a check. You can try calling customer service, but due to the sensitive nature, I don't think they can make any changes.
