Saying a name in his sleep
posted 14th Feb
I just got off the phone with my best friend who was hysterically angry over her SO saying his ex's name in his sleep a few times. They've been together now for almost 2 years (off and on).
I really didn't know what to say since idk my reaction until I would be in that situation. I just tried to go along with her and make her feel better.
So my question is..... What would YOU do if your SO or DH said an ex's name in his sleep? Would you think it's nothing, unconscious talk, or think there is something going on either in his mind, or in reality?

He can't help it. I wouldn't be pissed

If he wasn't acting weird and there were no other signs of him cheating, I wouldn't think anything about it. It's not like he can help what or who he dreams about.
But. If he was doing things to already make her suspect cheating, I would probably be a little more suspicious.

That's what I wanted to say but I could see her point. He does have a history if cheating that I should have thrown into the post.

You can't help it... How could you be mad about that?

I would give him smurf for months same as he would do me. Ive called out guys names in my sleep before, it hurt DH's feeling for a while but now he just picks on me about it.

I would make up some crazy dream story and then ask him if he had a weird dream last night because he woke me up mumbling, but I couldn't understand what he was saying...

Eh it's the subconscious. I've had dreams with ex's in it. Just how the brain works not a reason to be mad at the poor guy.

You don't always remember dreams though

I think I'll tell her most of the stuff you guys said. I can understand her being angry since the guy has cheated in her with the girl. But it really isn't his fault.

Maybe it was a nightmare and he yelled out her name then pushed her over and ran away... It is not necessarily romantic

My husband has done It before. It didn't bother me and I wasn't mad about it. I just asked him in the morning what his dream was about he said he didn't remember and laughed when I told him about it. They had a past it's normal to think/dream about it from time to time.

You can't control what you dream. If your friend is so upset about it then I would wonder if she is having trust issues already. I don't think someone in a secure stable relationship would feel threatened by a dream.

LOL I may be a little irked if he was moaning his ex's name in his sleep and had a raging boner going on, (which has never happened), but just saying her name? Meh, I don't care, he's done it before. Usually, 99% of the time, after he says her name he calls her a goddamn smurf, so I really don't care, lol!

I wouldn't like it. But I wouldn't fuss over it. I've had a few dreams about being head over heels for my POS ex again. Not my true feelings at all. So if I said his name in my sleep I would just feel bad if DH heard and got upset.
I would joke about it for sure though when he wakes up.
