All throughout my pregnancy I loved reading all these birth stories, and i've been so excited to post my own. Sorry it's late though, a baby keeps ya busy lol!
I went to the hospital around 1p.m. on the 10th of January because I was getting really sick. I had diarrhea real bad and kept getting sick, I couldn't even hold water down. I had an OB appointment later that day, so I called and they just told me to go in early just in case. When I got there they immediately got me in the room, and started checking everything. They put an IV in and just monitored things for a few hours. I was only have a contraction every now and then. They gave me something for the nausea, and soon I felt a lot better. I was ready to go home when the nurse said that my OB mentioned an induction so just sit tight. After a bit of waiting the doctor came in and explained that my OB wanted to induce me because of her lack of movement within the past week and now my fluid loss. I talked it over with Adam (BD) and we decided that he was right, and we agreed. With that, we were put in our labor room. I hadn't eaten anything since the night before, so they allowed me to have a light dinner. A turkey sandwich, a cup of fruit cocktail, some cinnamon teddy grahams and a diet vernors. After that, they checked me (I was 2 cm, 70% effaced) and put in a cervadil (around 6 p.m.). They said it would induce labor very slowly, if anything I should only feel a few contractions. They put it in and told me to relax, and that after 12 hours with the cervadil they would take it out and depending on how I reacted, they'd either let me labor naturally from there or start pitocin. Since the induction was unexpected, my boyfriend decided to run home to grab our bags, put the car seat in and straighten up the house. He was gone about 2 hours, I just relaxed and watched some tv. Around 8 p.m. I started feeling some contractions. I texted Adam and told him they were getting a bit painful. He came back up to the hospital and then they started getting really bad and frequent, one every 2-3 min. I tried breathing through them, but they were becoming too much to handle. The doctor came in around 9:30 p.m. and said I was reacting well to the cervadil (no smurf right?) and so he took it out and checked me. I was still at a 2! I was so pissed, all that pain and no progress! He then decided to put in a catheter, I can't remember the name but it worked like a water balloon to manually dilate me. He asked if I wanted an epi, and at first I said no but after talking it over with Adam I changed my mind. I was hoping to go through it natural but I was not prepared, and was physically exhausted. I needed to get rest and that was impossible with the contractions I was having. The lady came in, gave me the epi and right away I was feeling better. It was beautiful lol. My contractions were still going crazy but I didn't feel anything except maybe a little bit of pressure now and then. I was able to finally get some sleep but it was hard because the nurses kept waking me up because the baby was being stubborn and wouldnt stay by the monitors. Around 6 a.m. the doctor came in and checked me and I was about 6-7 cm! That was really nice to hear. They took out the catheter and from there it was a waiting game. I kept dozing in and out of sleep for the next few hours. Around 9 a.m. he checked me again and I was even more dilated. I called my mom and she came up right away, and so did my dad and everyone too. Around 10 I was checked and I was at a 9. Finally, my OB came in and broke my water, and instantly I started having the worst contractions. It only took about 10 mins and I was feeling the urge to push. They told me it wasn't time to push but my body was saying "smurf you this baby is coming out NOW". My doctor was amazing, he helped me control my pain so well. I started pushing for what seemed like forever. He kept telling me that he saw her head coming out little by little, first it was a grape view, then an apricot size view, and I remember asking what an apricot was and everyone laughed at me lol. The pressure was crazy, and my breathing dried my mouth out so much that I had Adam feeding me lemon ice in between pushes After about 30 mins of pushing I felt the most excruciating burning pain, and then the doctor told me to feel and I touched her head. After that I stopped feeling all the pain, and with one more push her shoulders came out and they put her on my chest and she let out a huge cry. I started crying right away, it was so overwhelming. The pain was instantly gone and she was just so beautiful. Then they took her and cleaned her up, and they started massaging my stomach and got the rest of the stuff out. (My boyfriend had fun describing that to me.) I tore in 3 places, and had to get stitches. Once they put her in my arms again though, she was all I could focus on. I instantly fell in love. She was 6 lbs, 9 oz. 21 inches and 100% healthy We were able to go home the next day.
She's almost 5 weeks now and she's been the most amazing little baby. Only cries when she needs something She's cuddly and she's beginning to smile and hold her head up. She's so loved<3
Crazy contractions!
