Whats the difference ipad and tablet?

I have an iPad, love it. It is expensive- but IMO totally worth it.

basically a tablet runs on android (usually) and ipad runs on ios.

We share it. I limit the boys activity on it. But am going to have to get my 3 yr old set up so he is using it a lot more.

I actually am buying my other son one because we will be homeschooling them next year and we can get all of their material on there for free

you don't generally download much to a tablet like you would to a computer. The tablet has very limited space (even ones with 32 gb storage) You install programs through an app store or marketplace so everything is trusted (most viruses are executable files)
