re: Induction?

posted 14th Feb
I was induced at 40 weeks 1 day with V and things went smoothly. I was 1 cm dilated and hardly effaced. My water was broken at 9:40 am and got an epi at 5 pm. 7:50 pm I felt like I needed to poop. My OB didn't arrive until 8:15 (she got stuck behind a car accident) and V was born at 8:26.

How long do they think they baby can stay in safely? It sounds like you really do need to hold off as long as you can with her measuring small. Do they know somthing is wrong with your placenta or just think it?

Just because she is measuring small dose not mean she is! But best to be safe.

Will you have an epidural? I believe that I might have not needed a c-section if I had an epidural. After so meany hours of labor with out one I did not have the strength to push. I did push 4 hours and but the babys head never came down. Then his heart rate dropped and they had to put me under. Heat rate doping is more common with induction than with out.

I have also been induced with number 4, due to my membranes breakinng and not going into labour. I can tell you that if you are 36 wks and your baby's growth has slowed it will not have effected his/her lung development. They get the surfactant in there lungs at 35-36 weeks and this prepared them for breathing air. If the doctors are concerned about the growth to the extent that they think your baby needs to come out, then trust them. If you dont get induced and baby isnt getting the nutrients needed to grow, your placenta is probably not working properlly, Baby needs to come out. sometimes they are better out than in. No the induction process isnt always nice, but neither is labour, and you have the options of pain relief, entonox, epidural, etc. It may come down to you choosing between an unplesant experince or the survival of you little one. Relax go with the flow and see how it the induction pans out, you never know by 39 weeks you may have already given birth in a perfectly natural way. Good luck and congratulations on meeting your little one, however and when ever he/she turns up.

I have jsut read some of the other posts, Labour and Induction is different for everyone, if you had horrendous back ach beign induced you will probably have back ache in natural labour as well.

Im sure you will decide what to do, but try not to stress, they will not ask you to deliver your baby early if it was not absolutely necessary. Every labour is different, soem woman find it horrendous and long and others find it rewarding and not to bad. Go with your body, and what it is telling you. Listen to what the doctors and your Midwife are trying to communicate to you, just because your bubba is small dosnt mean they will have problems once they do come out. Enjoy the last few weeks of being pregnant.

I have had 2 ultrasounds to check on her growth and the 1st one she was in the 16th precentile and then this last one she went down to less then 10 precentile. My MW said it sounded like it was my placenta and we would keep in eye on her. That is y I am having NST done twice a week and an ultrasound once a week. I am unsure of how long she will be able to stay in cuz like I said the 1st ultrasound she was a week ahead in her head and only like 29 weeks on her stomache. But now with this second ultrasound everything is behind by like 4 weeks and she is only weighing 4lbs 11oz. I started out measuring small at 25 weeks in the belly measurements and thats y we went with doing the 2 ultrasounds one was at 32 weeks and the last one was at 35 weeks (so 3 weeks apart). But my MW doesnt think her staying in past 39 weeks for sure will help her at all and she would deff be better out. I have an appt tuesday so I am going to talk to her a little mroe about things. But I was told if the NST or ultrasounds show something they do not like they will take her.
