Microchipping a cat?

posted 14th Feb
In 3 weeks I'll be getting my kitten, Nina, spayed and declawed. I kind of want to microchip her, but she is a strictly indoor cat so I didn't know if it would be worth paying for it. I almost never hear on the local animal shelter's website of cats getting turned in as strays. Dogs, yes, but rarely cats.

I will most likely get her chipped just to be on the safe side, but I wanted your opinions. Thanks!

Declawing a cat is cruel and lazy. I don't really care if you get her microchipped or not.

I got my cat from the shelter, she is microchipped. She has never gotten out but there are so many strays in the area that I am glad she is chipped.

I just kind of want to tell you to not declaw her...but I'm sure they'd microchip her. Depending on the price, I probably wouldn't do it. My cat is an inside kitty and I have no worries of him ever sneaking outside lol.

I'd much rather see OP's cat declawed than hit by a car.

OP if you want to save money you can skip on the microchipping. I've had strictly indoor cats for close to 20 years and never had a need for it.

You wanna know why we're declawing her? She gave my son cat scratch fever. It's either remove her claws or remove her. I brought her into my home and she is well love and taken care of. I brought her into my home to be with us for the rest of her life. This is the best way to take care of her and my son.

Why do you want to declaw? Just curious. They don't just snip the nails off they actually like cut the tips of their "fingers" off if I'm not mistaken. Imagine if you have the part of your finger past your last knuckle cut off.. :/
Just, please think about it.
And I would chip your kitty. Never know what could happen.

Thank you.

I wasn't sure if it would be worth the $40 then an additional $20 a year.

I thought once you got cat scratch fever that you don't get it again? Kinda like chicken pox?

Thank you for not being harsh.   I want to declaw because she scratched my son and gave him cat scratch fever. It was either her or the claws.

You have to pay for your cats chip yearly? That doesn't sound right... Mine came chipped at no extra cost from SPCA and I haven't heard anything about paying again.

Or you could treat your cat for bartonellosis and that way your cat won't be able to transmit any bacteria to your son. If your cat remains a carrier she could still give it to him through a bite.

My vet said its $40 to have it inserted, then $20 subscription fee a year to keep the chip active.

I understand wanting them declawed. Lol. I would totally get my older kitty declawed, he's so rough! I also have another cat at my moms house who is declawed and he looks nubby in the paw area. He seems happy though.

I'm not a vet but I have never heard that. I would call around that, seems really weird.
