re: Do grandparents have some sort of rights to see my child?

posted 14th Feb
both answers are right. The only time grandparents rights come into play is when a grandparent was very active in the child's life.. the parents have a falling out.. and the grandparents are cut out because of that disagreement.

like... say you and your SO let his mom watch your kids every weekend while you go out to party or work. THen.. you and your SO have a fight, break up (or he passes away) and you randomly decide grandma isn't allowed to be around your kids anymore. THEN.. they can fight for grandparents rights because you obviously thought it was good for your child to spend a lot of time around her when things were fine for you... then cut them off.

typically though... in a normal situation... courts will not randomly give grandparents any rights to your child.

Every state has "grandparent laws". What entitles you them to them depends on the state.
It's a big court battle and usually it's when the grandparents want custody, not visitation.
