I'd suggest looking on Craigslist or Kijiji (if you have it in your area). I also went to a lot of Mom2mom's at different churches in the beginning of my pregnancy to get a lot of the big things. Are you having a baby shower?

If you are breastfeeding, you'll want to avoid giving bottles and pacis until at least 6 weeks anyway. I'm sure your baby won't be playing with toys for a bit either. Swings aren't necessary, baby's going to want to be held and close to you anyway.
All you really need for a newborn is some boobs, clothes, and diapers!
and one package should last you a couple days or so until your SO can grab some on his way home one day maybe? You may want to just stock up on those in the time to come so you won't be panicked about it once your LO is here, though.

I only have a few outfits. Course I also have quite a bit of stuff from my youngest when he was born so it isn't overly concerning me. We still want to get a swing, a car seat and other things though.

Don't feel bad, when I had my youngest I didn't have anything but a couple outfits lol. Had no bottles, or even a crib. My SO was superman and got everything while we were still in the hospital.

oh yeah! you'll probably want to make carseat a pretty high priority.. that's pretty important.

I'm doing cloth. It has so many benefits, and it will save you money in the long run. The only issue is upfront cost can be pricey, but you could just slowly east into it. Buying a few at a time and use sposies in between washes.
and a crib is fine for a newborn. Bassinets aren't always necessary.

We use Parent's Choice diapers and they work great. I had my youngest in a crib right away but if you feel better/safer having your baby by you I'd go with a bassinet or swing or co sleep if you're okay with doing it.

I have a crib but i also have a pack n play that converts to a bassinet, that way its dual use. Its up to you though. Im not sure of your budget. but our pack n play came with the bassinett, the diaper holder and a mobile for 75. That way you dont get just a bassinett, use it and then be done. But again thats just in my opinion

I'm in almost the same boat as you...
I'm now 33 weeks.
Of course, I have an almost 2 year old son so I don't need to buy a new car seat and I'm using a lot of his newborn clothes. I want to cloth diaper, but I plan on placing that order next month. I'm doing a 30 day trial because I don't want to invest into it and turn out I hate cloth diapering although my son is about to begin potty training.... I just need to get to the store and buy him some underwear, a few covers, and a new pack of prefolds. I had just bought a brand new pack of diapers when my mom decided to buy him a potty. I should call her and tell her to order me some covers, prefolds and size 3 or 4 underwear for him... but I know her income....

A stash starting out with the cheapest options can cost around $200 but if you get fancy with it, it can be pricey.
alvababy.com has cheap ones like $5-6 each.
It may be cheaper to go with disposables until your LO can fit into one size diapers that way you won't have to get a newborn stash and a stash for when they're bigger. check out the cloth diaper thread, there's a bit of info to learn about them..
