Failure to thrive.

posted 14th Feb
Not exactly sure if thts what is going on or if she's going to be small we will see what my OB says but baby E measured on average at 33 weeks 4 days, and I'm 36 weeks 5 days. She has never measured small for her ultrasounds up
Until this point. I'm worried it is a failure to thrive. And if it is, for those who have had babies who've been through this, what was YOUR doctors way of handling the situation. Were you induced ASAP? Or after a certain point, or what.

I didn't think a baby could be a FTT until after birth..

I'm pretty sure failure to thrive is only after they are born, but anyways...

They'll probably do a follow up ultrasound to make sure the imaging is still showing you as IUGR and if you are they will probably induce.

No there are situations where the baby isn't getting enough from the placenta for whatever reasons and isn't growing as they should be, where they do better on the outside that inside mom.

ETA: my bad, IUGR, mixed up in my mind.

I had IUGR(intrauterine growth restriction). I didn't measure more than 36 weeks from 35 weeks til I delivered at 39 weeks. My son was 6lbs when we went home. He was really small so he wore preemie clothes because newborn was huge on him

Yes... but I don't believe thats called "failure to thrive". Failure to thrive is more if your baby isn't gaining weight after birth.

It's cool

I know it's stressful but just hang in there. They will most likely to bi-weekly NST's, and follow up ultrasound. If its showing the baby is not growing at all or you are having bad NST's then they will induce.

I hope she starts gaining weight, I don't really want to have to be induced. Her estimated weight was 4 lbs 3 oz. I know they can be off by 2 lbs, but the lady said at this specific place they were never off by more that 15oz. So that worried me too.

I can't really be sure how big she is until she's born but that seems small to me. :/

I didn't have IUGR but dd measures small after 33 weeks. But that's just because she was petite. She was born at 38 weeks at 5lbs. Some babies are just little! Are you small?

You still have 4 weeks to go and they estimate baby gains a lb each week. You could end up with an 8lber on your hands   I'm an L&D RN and I've seen a lot of babies induced for IUGR that come out anywhere from 7-9lbs. Hopefully their measurements are off but if not I'm sure you're in good hands <3
