Rash on Newborn's Neck

posted 14th Feb
My daughter is three weeks old today and after giving her a bath this morning I noticed a rash on the right side of her neck. I have never noticed it before.

I keep her clean. She gets baths twice a week and gets wiped down every day. I always make sure to clean under her neck, around her arms, and legs. I know it is important to keep her skin folds clean. She also always has on clean clothes. If she getting anything on her outfit I change her. And all of her clothes are washed in Dreft laundry detergent.

I am wondering if I didn't get her dry enough after her bath. Would that cause a rash? I am so upset that I did something wrong. I schedule her an appointment with her dr. because I am not sure what it is and what I could put on it. I just wanted to know if other parents have experienced something like this?

What does the rash look like? Is it bumpy, a lot of dots, just blotchy spots?

Kids get rashes all the time some unexplained. You didn't do anything wrong, it could be as simple as a heat rash, or her clothes rubbed wrong.

Babies skin does weird things. Are you bfing? If so put some bm on it. Dont beat yourself up. My dd got a diaper rash at a week old. She's 3 wels tomorrow and I'm still working on completely getting rid of it. I was so upset cause she gets changed every 2-3 hrs. I am putting bm on it and using cornstarch on her butt. It's helping a lot.

My SD Slot is broken on my computer so I can't upload photos right now. I text a photo to my Aunt who works in a doctor's office and she said not to worry. But she didn't say what it was or what to put on it.

I use petroleum jelly on her. The doctor said it would prevent diaper rash and stop her vaginal area from growing together. So thankfully she has never has a diaper rash.

And no she is formula fed. She did have a newborn rash when she was born but it has gone away. This rash is red, moist and has a smell. It is about the size of a quarter.

We cloth diaper so I can't use petroleum based products. I did put her in disposables at its worst and slabbed a&d on her.

I didn't know you couldn't use it with cloth diapers.

I was just putting her in her car seat to take her to the doctor and noticed her seat straps. Maybe they are rubbing her neck and causing the rash. I will have to make sure they are not too tight.

my first thought is yeast... dd used to get yeast infections that were red and sometimes a little white stuff would build up. it was from formula and breast milk running down her face and the moisture getting trapped. i would bathe her everyday an just try to wipe it off.

Wouldn't that dry out her skin? Bathing her everyday I mean?

That could be. Mine didn't come with strap covers so I put a light sweater on dd with a collar and I flip the collar up haha. Keeps it from rubbing.

not if its where the skin creases. dd got it a lot in her arm pits on humid days and now and then gets it in the crease of her thighs outside of her vagina. i just wipe it off and check on it though out the day and it usually diapears by the end of the day

I took her to her doctor and he said it was caused by her skin rubbing together. He gave me a cream to put on her neck and said once it was gone I could use baby power to help prevent it from happening again.

That's good. I hope once it's gone you can keep it away now   babies skin is just so sensitive.
