Weaning....

posted 14th Feb
Naturally I'm sad. But today is officially the first day of weaning.

It's not like I didn't see it coming, I mean he is almost 14 months old(birthday 12/31/11), but it's still naturally a sad thing.

I usually don't post on weaning but this time I will.

Pretty much I knew it was time, he doesn't breastfeed at all during the day, and some days he won't at night either, and if he did at night it was 1 time.

Last night was our first night not nursing, which wasn't a big deal, because again, he slept all night!

Here's to my not so little, very independent little boy.

Ugh I'm jealous! I wish my 16 month old would wean herself already! Lol she's such a boob monster. I don't doubt she'll want boob until she's 3 or 4.

I like to do it till about a year and half, but usually by the time they hit 14 months they're so go go go go, it's like who cares about the boob?

It is a bittersweet moment. Our oldest weaned just before turning three years old. She was actually tandem nursing once a day for a few months..

To me, I have a hard time seeing the benefit of nursing once a day you know? How much are they getting from it?

Like DH said, give him 24 hours, see how well he does, if he really needs it for comfort, we'll go back. He's gone a few days without nursing before and then gone back. I'm kind of hoping this time it's a little different, just because I don't know how much is there for him.

Well I believe in self-weaning even if just once a day. It helped her bond with her sister, it still helped fight off colds, it still gave her nutrients, and was still comforting. It was beneficial and I wasn't going to force her off just because it was down to once day.

ive been turning dd away during the day unless she is teething and not feeling good. she nurses a good bit in the morning and b4 bed and sometimes wakes up to nurse. during the day i give her fruit and veggies during her normal nursing times and she loves them. she is 14 months old. i dont mind her nursing during cuddle times i just want her to be a little more independent during the day. she is mildly lactose intolerant so im fine with letting her nurse until 2.

He's mostly just waking up at night to nurse out of habit.

He doesn't even care during the day and doesn't ask at all!

Even goes to bed without the boob, nap times everything.

It's just routine the middle of night to get up, get boob go back to bed.

If he's still distraught from not getting it at night, we'll go back. we have before!

He decided he wanted to think he wanted to nurse. Put him on and he just giggled. I totally think he's ready. This is what Jacob did too. Just giggle and play. No interest in ACTUALLY nursing.
