Crap nasty BROWNIES, helllp.

posted 14th Feb
So, made box-brownies, didn't have veggie oil,
so i used apple sauce.

I baked it for the time it said , toothpick didn't come out clean
Baked a couple more minutes, took it out- let it set.

1. Tastes like apple sauce
2. It somehow is simultaneously not fully baked but also dry 'n spongy.

I don't want people to have to eat these.

I'm too low on olive oil, but read i can use just regular butter.
Is that what you would do?
How can i make this next batch not suck.

Feed it to someone or the garbage can and tell them well there shall be no brownies now.

for me... some odd reason.. my box brownies always come out smurffy. Home made are just as easy... so I make them that way. So... unless you have cocoa powder.. I'm no help.

good luck though!

I'd have used peanut oil (we fry our stuff in that), or melted butter, and added an ounce or two to what's requested to be sure..

I use applesauce a lot in my recipes. I do half applesauce and half butter or canola oil or olive oil. Never full applesauce. Even in my recipes that are butter and oil and egg free, I have to use applesauce with a banana.

When you use all applesauce the batter is too moist.

Aaw! I actually always use it in my baking instead of veggie oil, it gives a nice nutty twang to whatever, it's okay, now you know!

Sorry... The applesauce provides the same liquid (duh) but IDK why- applesauce alone doesn't work well. I tried it and the stuff like you said, takes forever to cook all the way through but it ends up dry and in my experience sunken in the middle with dry edges.
