Night time is when my LOs colic and AR was the worst. But you know just a suggestion. I always like to rule out the medical before the psychological because the medical is usually easier to fix.

I may be totally wrong here, but I don't think the brain has reached the stage of development necessary for a true night terror at his age yet. However young babies do have REM cycles and do dream. His scope of negativity is pretty limited at his stage, but it's possible he gets it in his little head that he's super hungry, or can't find mommy etc... and wakes up scared. Although honestly, it's probably more likely gas pains from a nighttime feeding, anxiety from waking up in the dark, something along those lines.

DD gets night terrors, started when she was one. It's absolutely heartbreaking and devastating, you just can't pull them out of it and you just have to try and hold them while they're terrified and confused. I really hope your son doesn't have to deal with that. True night terrors are horrible to watch a child go through. Give the little guy a hug for me!

Mine is 10 months and just started having them. It's a scream like no other scream. It's not an "I'm upset hold me mommy" cry. It's an "OH MY GOD MOMMY SAVE ME I'M DYING!!" cry. And nothing can sooth them at all.

well i dont know if there is a certain age for night terrors..im a first time mom..il give him a hug for ya

the 1st time it happened i jumped out of bed and ran to his crib and i picked him up and he was sweaty and then he was ok

Why would you prefer night terrors to a simple medical cause though? Keep in mind there's a difference between a nightmare and a night terror. The brain goes through a ton of development in the early months and there absolutely is development over time in terms of sleep rhythms and dreams capabilities. But I'm really not sure, I guess it would be hard to tell if a 4 month old can have night terrors at all since you can't ask them. Honestly if i were you I'd hope for colic. I've watched my baby screaming that I'm not her mommy because she just saw mommy die, I've watched her hurt herself, I've watched her think she's trapped alone and I can't get through to her to show her it's not real. Small children trapped in night terrors are just the saddest thing on the planet.

too young.... babies wake up crying. He could have acid reflux... gas pains, or just waking up hungry.

Exactly. I think there's a little confusion here about the difference between a nightmare and a night terror. Night terrors last an average of 30 minutes. You can't calm them, they dont know who you are, they're moving and talking but trapped in the dream. They can't snap out of it without falling back asleep, there's no talking them down. So if baby is okay when you pick him up and comfort him, by definition it can't be a night terror. If it's short lived and you can comfort them it's a regular nightmare or just a fussy baby.

My son has night terrors they began when he was about 18 months old. I honestly dont know when they can start but I do know that when he is having one there is no snapping him out of it or calming him down really quick. I think if he clams right down when you pick him up I doubt he is having night terrors. My son gets up in a panic and screams, paces back and forth, talks and yells and things/people that aren't there, and freaks out even more when you touch him. I usually have to grab and bear hug him and he thrashes around trying to hit/get away. The only reason I grab him is because he really gets going and I dont want him to get hurt but it takes him a while to come out of it and he never really wakes fully more just calms back down and I put him back in bed. He doesn't remember a thing the next day. They are crazy! I am not surprised though my husband sleep walks/talks (even drove once) like you wouldn't believe. I really hope for your sake it isn't night terrors they are awful!
