Do you think its wrong?

posted 14th Feb
... to only be planning on buying your second child a new car seat, some clothes, and of course diapers, wipes etc? And use everything as hand me downs? A friend of mine was debating with another friend whose pregnant (they don't know I'm pregnant yet), that if you can't afford to buy everything brand new you shouldn't be having a baby.

I'm using my sons bassinet, cot, pram, strollers (he has two), and all the unisex (and more if this is a boy) clothes. We saved everything and I don't see a problem with it ... however I was wondering what other people thought.

I see no problem with using hand me downs. Saves you money. I actually am letting my friend use all of my baby stuff and she is going to hold onto it for me until I get pregnant again.

I think it's stupid, wasteful, and pompous to not use hand me downs. I'm reusing a LOT of stuff from my son.

Hell no it's not wrong. I've used the same cot for all three kids.
What a snob.

ETA 99% of DD2s clothes is DD1s handmedowns.

I have saved ALL of my son's things (with the exception of his car seat which has expired, overly stained clothing, and some toys) for any future child/ren I might have. I spent all of this money on these things, I may as well get my use out of them!

not wrong at all. hell.. by baby number 4... I honestly bought just a couple outfits, diapers, and wipes. I learned where it's worth spending money.. and where it's not.

I promise.. your baby does NOT care. Save the money... put it in savings to be used when it matters. In some ways... my youngest made out MUCH better. I spent money going places, enjoying her, than on clothes, bouncers, etc...

Oh gosh no! I think it's perfectly fine to use hand-me-downs.... I don't have any previous children, so we have nothing left over... but friends have been asking if we'd like things (mostly clothes) they're not using anymore ----and I say SURE!

My bestie just had a girl & wondered if she should send the stuff her baby's outgrown in case I end up having a boy. I said hell yes... if this baby is a boy, he can puke all over a pink onesie just as well as a blue one! Who cares?

Of course, I'll buy certain things new (like safety items --- carseats, strollers, etc), but I don't have a problem reusing and passing it on to the next mama!

id say at least 70% of my LOs clothes are second hand and probably 95% of his toys and hes my first and only child and probably has more clothes than a super model lol. Makes no sense what are you supposed to do it throw it away?

Why in the hell would you be that wasteful? We reused everything we could. We could have afforded to buy everything new, but what's the point?

My youngest daughter got my oldest daughter's hand me downs. Plus some new stuff. My niece is now using clothes that my youngest daughter outgrew, and her bassinet and swing. Nothing wrong with using hand me downs (as long as the stuff is still in good shape & not worn out).

no its in really good shape, and the bassinet I actually bought from a hand me down store. Its extra large coz my son was nine pounds six. Its all been clugging up the spare room for like a year now

my 1st child gets 90% of his stuff from thrift stores 2nd hand stores and sometimes the side of the road (if its clean enough and nice like the rocking wodden air plane i got him i saw on the side of the road and its awesome) it wasn't intentional just find it to be a nice hobby to go looking but seriously saves us a lot of money and now we are looking at houses...sooo i'd say thats stupid to HAVE to have everything BRAND NEW...especially if they are close in age!
