re: due late august/early september have you seen your OB yet?

posted 14th Feb
Omg they are so different here! If you go under the public Mother & Baby health scheme it's all free but you don't even get a scan till around 11-12 weeks. And that's with your 1st baby, can be even longer with your 2nd etc. I found out at 6 weeks + the doc just confirmed it, prepared my maternity book + did my bloods. I didn't get scanned then till 13 weeks! It's different if you're a private patient, more appointments, no long waiting queues in the public clinics, more scans etc but most woman opt for the public scheme.

I scheduled this appointment over a month ago, they just didn't want to see me until sometime between 10-12 weeks.. Last time the only reason I got a sonogram before 20 weeks was because my PCP wanted to ease my anxiety and my aunt runs a Ultrasound clinic so they hooked me up, otherwise my OB did nothing but bloodwork and measured my uterus and listened for the heartbeat..

That sounds normal. I have aps which is why I have had 2 of mine and the other was downs testing.

Sounds like your ob is on track as long as your bloods are done

I hit 11 weeks this morning & I have already had two prenatal visits. Every clinic runs different! but good luck! I'm sure they'll hear a heartbeat. I heard mine this morning & it took my breath away!<3

Due to my medical history, I've already have had 2 scans and 4 dr appts and my due date is Sept 14th (so I's 10 weeks). Normally my OB would not of even seen me until I was at least 6 weeks.

It does seem late for the first apt. I have had 3 scans already (1 was for 1st trimester screening) and I've had 5 apts. I'm not even considered high risk. We just have apts every 4 weeks till 30 weeks, then every 2 weeks till 36, and then every week till D-day. I should have only had 2 scans but the first one was too early so they had to do a second one 2 weeks later to get my due date (Aug. 14); though in a few weeks I have another scan scheduled to determine gender. Right now I'm 15+5, so almost 16 weeks.

I've had 2 miscarriages before this pregnancy, so I think my doctor was a little more proactive with seeing me. I had blood work done at 4 weeks, my first ultra sound at 6 weeks and we saw the heartbeat. I had a scare at 8 1/2 weeks and they brought me in again for another ultra sound. I had another ultra sound at 13 weeks and another at 17 1/2 weeks (we found out then it was a boy!). Other than that, I've had checkups every 4 weeks. I'm going for my 4th checkup a week from today
Don't be discouraged or frustrated, every clinic is different. But if there is ever a time you don't feel right, make sure to let them know.

Good Luck!

I'm due August 27 and type one diabetic and had just moved when we found out and had no doctor. i called a few the first wasn't super stressed about seeing me right away and said they would not do an ultrasound until 20 weeks, the ob i went with made seeing me a little more urgent and even though we weren't expecting it did an ultrasound at our first appt (i was 9 weeks) i've had 2 other appts since then one was all paperwork the other the physical and i was 13 weeks for that one we got to listen to the heartbeat and don't have another appt until 17 weeks not sure what they'll do there but after that my appts will be more frequent because i'm high risk

I'm due august 20th 2013 and I had my first obgyn appointment at 4 weeks had my first ultrasound at 6 weeks but heard his heartbeat at the ultrasound. I was able to hear his heartbeat also at 11 weeks in the doctors office. I'm now 19 weeks and got to find out that I'm having a boy at 18 weeks 2 days pregnant. It all depends on the baby and heart Doppler really. Good luck and congrats on the baby ;)

Here, you're seen as soon as they can get you in after you get a BFP.
You get a dating ultrasound, usually before 13wks, because it's easier to get an accurate reading then. A second ultrasound 18-22wks to check up and make sure everything is OK, and you can potentially find out the gender.
I actually see my doc/midwife once a month until 7months, then at 7months, it's every two weeks, and then in the last month it's every week until birth.
There might be a third ultrasound around 35-37wks if the babe is possibly breech, just to check, or if you're having complications... but that's it. And it works. Plus, it's covered. Whether it's a doc or a midwife. It's all covered under the provincial health care plan.
