How do they measure fluid?

I get an ultrasound every week(I have pre-e) and the dr always measures fluid. Lat time fluid was low and well I could kinda tell cause baby wasn't moving as much as normal and on the ultrasound it just didn't "look" like he had a lot of cushion.

He doesn't move much but his movements really hurt now! I mean like I am crying in pain when he even rolls.

So anyways how do they measure fluid.

They divide your uterus into quadrants and measure pockets of fluid that they can see via ultrasound. They have an index to go by to determine if the fluid is low or not.

Thank you! I have my appt tomorrow and if its still low and such I will be delivering. I finally hit 34 weeks and things have gotten worse. Fingers crossed all looks ok cause I know my BP has not been good :-(
