Clear diarrhea HELP PLZ !

posted 13th Feb
Is it normal for babies to have clear diarrhea when there on pedialyte?! She's been on it for about 2 days & any time she passes gas she has clear diarrhea. Is this normal?

Is she still eating? Diarrhea can cause dehydration. I would cut back on the pedialyte and go back to her regular diet.

No she is on nothing but pedialyte.

How old is she? Is she on food yet?
I'd try to give her rice or applesauce or bananas.
Nothing but pedialyte can't be good.

That's a problem. Pedialyte should be given only to help keep her hydrated not as a nutritional supplement. I would stop the pedialyte for now.

She needs to see a doctor. Babies dehydrate very quickly and end up in a cycle where they can't process the nutrition they need to feel better. It sounds like her intestines are moving so quickly it isn't even breaking down the pedialyte, it's just running right through her. And yeah, listen to the previous commenter. Even a sick child needs more than pedialyte. If she cant tolerate anything else shell need an IV to keep her hydrated and nourished.

The doctor was seriously wrong.
You should attempt to give her something to eat, even if she doesn't keep it down.

My doctor highly recommends the BRAT diet. Bread, rice, apples, toast. Those are all foods that help with diarrhea and vomiting.

I can't believe he told you that. Where did he expect her nutrition to come from? I feel awful for you, he shouldn't have set you up for panic like this. How old is your baby?
