Pumping immediately after birth...
posted 13th Feb
So after i have a hopefully natural drug free water birth, i plan on BFing right away and doing skin to skin with my baby to help with milk supply. I want to have an oversupply. I always have an "under" supply and never make enough, by 2 weeks i have a stqrving baby losing weight and im so worn out. I can only pump about half and ounce to an ouce out of each side, and its never enough to supplement only with BM. I always end up giving formula. I want my baby SO BAD to have a "virgin" tummy because just BM really is so good for babies and digestion and i just want to do that so bad, so im wondering.. If you pumped rit after birth on top of nursing, did yu make a ton of milk?
I plan on having mh motherlove milk plus drops with me so after birth i can start them immediatly, and as soon as i get home (before my milk comes in) i want to pump as much as i can and nurse as much as i can..for 2 weeks thats all i want to do! I will be eating some of my placenta raw as long my baby doenst get meconium in utero and the rest will be capsulated, and i know thats really good for milk supply too. I just wold LOVE to be able to freeze up a stash and possibly donate. I have a deep freezer and my goal is start to fill it up and just pup and milk like a cow!!!
So if you pumped shortly after birth how long did it take for you milk to come in? If you pumped colustrum how much did you get out?

It took 7 days. I pumped every 90-120 minutes, and got nothing. Not even enough for them to give her in a dropper.
Skip pumping and just put the kid to the breast. You won't get anything more. And no, you don't want an over supply. That's just stupid

I was stuck in the hospital after B was born. I was pumping out 6 ounces each side I'm sure it depends on the mama.

For the first 2 weeks all I did was pump and nurse. My milk took 5 days to come in and I had to supplement for the first 3 weeks but since I pumped so much my supply came in strong. I was able to store about 5 extra oz a day. I have never seen my colostrum - either I didn't make any or hopefully DS got it all.
Shuddering at the thought of eating raw placenta.

Why is it stupid? I would give anything to be able to pump ounces and have milk running out of my breasts.. Better than not having enough in my opinion.

Oh no you're right. The unbearable pain, leaking through pads, that's cool.

You don't want oversupply. I'm dealing with that now, and it's not fun.
Just nurse as much as possible...DD nursed constantly in the hospital and my milk came in after a couple days, and it was a LOT. I would wait until your supply comes in and then if necessary start pumping, taking supplements, etc. to increase your supply. Oversupply makes it really tough for baby to nurse, not to mention it's uncomfortable for you.

That's going to happen anyway, no? I was able to stop pumping after a couple weeks but it took almost 3 months for my supply to regulate.

half the challenge of breastfeeding is trusting your body. Its all supply and demand....baby to breast will bring in the amount you need. Pumping a bit here and there will help build a supply.
All babies lose weight after birth, especially breastfed babies, trust you body mama....just trust

Sounds better to me than having to buy formula and go to weight checks every few days for weeks. I will galdy take engorement pain and some wet shirts to have lots of milk. Gadly...

No. I was only in u bearable pain when I was engorged. Which was rarely since the kid ate often. I was lucky and never leaked.
Oversupply is like, constant engorgement

This is what I had, I think, from 6 weeks to 3 months. It sucked but I had OP's mindset - my milk pretty much disappeared with my first baby so I tolerated the pain and leaking.
