ol this needs to be sold with car seat , I'm not sure if you have them where you live but we have like cart with infant carries built in from newborn to 12kgs which reclines.
All you have to to is ask the staff and they'll assist by getting you one.

I did not know this when the twins were in infant carriers

Therefore, I was one of those parents who had their child "snapped" in on top of the cart, in my defense though, I had TWO infant carriers at the same time..lol.

I know now, though, so in about 4 years when I have another (lol), I know not to do it,

I actually had no idea that car seats weren't recommended to go in shopping carts. No one ever told me and I'm like 90% certain my car seat manual didn't say anything about it. That was 4 1/2 years ago.

But thats not where it should go. I also read it can ruin the mechanism, so it may not lock into the base correctly.

I'd still do it again. But if I ever have another, I would just skip the carrier all together and just go for a convertable and wrap.

We used to snap ours in, but then our store got new carts so it does the head down angle. So we just sit ours up on it and hold it in place bc our son would flip his poo if we stuck him down in a shopping cart. He is one for watching the world around him! Which isn't safe either but he isn't going anywhere when we are the ones holding it in place. But luckily it's getting warmer so we can just carry him in and hold him or have him actually sit in the cart.

I used to do it, until I saw a baby tip with it and completely flip over

How can it completely flip over? I've never had an issue with a top heavy cart, and when I go to Wal-Mart alone I never had anything heavy in my cart balance out the weight. I think someone would have to be trying REALLY hard to make it do that!

Wait.. knowing that it can ruin the connection with the base, you'd still do that again? or you don't believe that's true?
