I just took DD on her first trip in January. She was 4, almost 5 months and we went to Arizona to celebrate my grandpa's 90th birthday. We live in MI so we had to fly there. She did great, hardly fussed at all and slept most of the car and plane ride. The only time she really cried was when we took off and when we landed because her little ears were popping. Overall though she was really good.

I didn't drive but I flew alone with DS at 3 weeks old. Flying was a breeze with him.

His first road trip, 7 hours, was when he was 6 weeks old. It was prtty easy but added 3 hours on our trip because he was eating every two hours.
I wasn't alone, though. I am not sure how it would have went if I had been driving alone.

Nevermind you didn't say you would be driving alone. Sorry, its been a long day. lol

We drove from Phoenix to San Diego (a 6 hour drive each way) when DD was 5 weeks old. She did great! We stopped a few times so I could BF her and she slept the rest of the way.

We took DD to her grandmothers funeral three hours away at three months old, to a wedding 6 hours away (week away from home) at 8 months old, and her first flight (two week trip) at 15 months old. All three trips went really really well. It takes a lot of planning and I'm glad we did it in stages like that, but it's doable. Just try to get as close to that magic three month mark when they start getting a teensy bit less erratic, but if it's unavoidable I'm sure you could still manage it.

Now that my dd is older its actually easier to take road trips even though she is awake longer. She wasnt that good of a long car rider when she was younger and I thought it would get worse but she actually got better thank goodness.

You will want to stop to feed baby because you will need to burp LO. That's why it took us 3 extra hours. lol

I think it'd be WAY easier to do it after he is born. hell my 4 month doesn't even like driving 30 mins in the car let alone 9 hours! You can get a bottle warmer that goes in your car, it takes about 30mins at most to warm up the bottle so if you started it early before you knew your LO would wake up to feed then you can just feed in the car. And keep BM in a cooler, or if you aren't doing that just water in a water bottle.
