Should I find a new doctor?!

posted 13th Feb
I got a call from my OB's office this morning. My appointment for tomorrow had to be cancelled. Apparently my doctor had a family emergency and will be out of town for an undetermined amount of time. This is kind of freaking me out. We're getting down to the wire. I'm nearly 34 weeks. The nurse who called set me up to meet with a different doctor at a completely different location. I'm okay with this if it is just the one time but pretty soon I'll be needing to go in to be seen weekly and it sounded like they're going to bounce me around to whoever is available until my OB is back. This means I could potentially see up to 3 or 4 different doctors between now and then - if she comes back at all. Should I try and find a new doctor this late in the game? Not so happy about all of this. . .

Doctors have families and emergencies, too. Such is life. If you don't want to be bounced around within the practice, then find another OB. It's up to you.

This late a new doctor might not take you. Neither of my regular OB's delivered my children. The first got sick in the middle of a c-section (she was pregnant with HG) so I got my least fave doctor. With my second none of the ob's that work in office deliver babies so there was 0 chance my doctor would have delivered.

I had a stranger actually deliver my first child (my ob was having her own baby) and honestly, it wasn't that different then when I knew my doctor well.

No? Why would you go to a different OB just bc ofthem having to cancel one appointment? (At least they let you know...) if it was every other appointment I could understand, but wanting to go somewhere else over one cancelled appointment bc of family is just plain silly if you ask me...

Ask if while he is away you can continue follow ups with the one doctor who you have been rescheduled for

At this stage in the pregnancy it is not very likely that a new doctor will take you. I had a hard time getting at new doctor at 24 weeks when I moved to Vegas from Missouri.

The midwife I had with DS was always called away when I was supposed to see him. I was always bounced back and forth between several different midwives and all of them ended up attending me at some point while I was in labour because the one day my actual midwife told me I wasn't allowed to have the baby, I went into labour

Poor guy missed the whole thing because it was his two daughter's graduation/formal!

it's not that she cancelled just one appointment. it's that she could potentially cancel most of our appointments leading up to my due date. I understand that doctors have families and emergencies too. this is just my first baby and I am obviously paranoid and want things to go according to plan. guess I'm just learning that things don't always work they want you want them to.

I don't think you need to look for a new doctor. See the doctors they send you to, and maybe your OB will come back before you deliver.

I saw the same OB for most of my pregnancy. He ended up showing up five minutes after I delivered my baby anyway.

"Go as planned??" Yeah... it is RARE that things go as planned with a pregnancy. And there's a potential that they could reschedule ALL appointments. Just bc of one appointment, don't get so paranoid. Chill out mama. The doc isn't bad bc she had to send you to someone else, at least she did that much. Some doctors don't do that...

She isnt upset over this being 1 time but at the potential of the doctor not being there at all for the rest of her pregnancy.

I get that. But don't jump the gun and get one after one time is all I'm saying. If it happens anymore, I could understand.
