I have had the same doctor with all 4 of my kids and he only has delivered 1 so far, we will see how this one goes but my 6 year old and 10 month old were both deleivered by two different doctors I had never met before but they were on call. Just depends with every practice I guess.

I LOVE my doctor!! I drive an hour away to see her!! If it were me I would talk to the nurses and get their opinion on the severity of the situation. If the doctor's spouse died or something very serious I would say get a new doctor. Or if they don't tell u anything I would wait two weeks then decide. Only so this if your really really love your doctor!! Otherwise I would say screw it I'm getting a new one.

For 1 they are not going to tell her whats going on. Its a violation of privacy. Two she is 34 weeks finding another doctor take her will most likely prove impossible especially when she is already at an office that has other doctors. There is no difference in switching to a different practice vs a new doctor in the same practice. Either way she has to see a new doctor.

The relationship that I have with my doctor and her associates, I am positive that the nurses at the office would tell me yes or no if I asked them straight out about finding a new doctor. I have complete faith in the team that I work with that they truely want whats best for me. For me it would be devestating to switch doctors!! Thats why I gave my OPINION in my personal situation. Maybe she has a similar one who knows?? If my life experiences can help someone else thats wonderful and if it doesn't apply let it fly!!

To clarify, I'm actually seeing a family practitioner who specializes in OB care. So from the beginning we were told that she would be our doctor and that she would deliver our baby. She's also going to be our family doctor after the baby is born. I really really like her a lot. I drive 45 minutes just to see her. My concerns are these: I am not being bounced around within an OB practice. I'm being sent to an entirely separate practice to see whichever doctor there is available to see me. I'm not even sure if who I'll be seeing even specializes in OB care. Secondly, I'm concerned that if my OB doesn't come back that I really will have no idea who will be delivering my baby. I don't know the procedure or protocol for that at all. I am going to go to this next appointment and find out everything that I can about how the rest of my pregnancy will pan out if she doesn't make it back before I make any decisions. I realize now that from what everyone is saying that it will probably be hard to find a new doctor this far along into things anyway. I'm just incredibly stressed out that I am completely in the dark right now.

If you go into labor you just go to the hospital and the on-call OB will deliver your baby. I know its stressful try making a list of questions so you dont forget that you can ask during your next appointment.

Everyone told me it would be difficult to get a new dr this late in pregnancy and I found like 5 and none that said no. I understand your concerns and hope your dr can come back. But, your dr is the one you will spend the least amount of time with during labor and delivery. I'd be more worried about liking my nurses...

Makes sense. All you can really do is ask questions. I pray you get the answers you need. Just, try and relax. I know it is easier said than done, but just relax and things will go perfectly. Unless there's something completely major going on, I am sure your regular Doctor will be back to deliver the baby. Good luck!!!

No matter what happenes just remember that the only thing that really matters is your beautiful healthy little baby   I know with our crazy pregnancy emotions we freak out about everything!! But just like its hard to imagine being in stirups with our legs wide open and not caring about all those people staring at our privates!! The doctor that delivers your baby is a very small part of the picture when you have a perfect healthy beautiful baby. It will all work out the way it is supposed to!! I do know how u feel I love my doctor too
