Smurf on my life

I was supposed to be getting married in 9 days. Now I'm at school, single, bruised, and alone.

And it's Valentines Day. Smurf this smurf. I'm an adult student, albeit there are quite a few at this school but I have to sit there watching all these blokes hit on my school mate who is GORGEOUS and she does deserve to be showered attention upon cos she's just wonderful. But I wouldn't mind a bit of attention too.


And I'm sad cos my kids don't even care that they don't see their dad. I mean, it makes it easier for me but it just confirms that I wasted 4 years on a tool.

I'm sorry you are dealing with all of that. If it matters, you are not alone. I'm an adult student, stuck in a relationship that I feel I'm wasting years on just hoooooping that when I go out once a month someone will notice me and it will go somewhere. Instead, I can't tell if people are noticing ME, or just being around me because of who I'm out with and that she's skinny.

At least you got out of your relationship. It's gotta be better than this (Staying in it)

It's everyone around me that's getting all worked up about Valentines Day. The school organised little messages and chocolates for people to send around, pretty much everyone in the class has got one or something from their husbands/boyfriends. And I'm like ... I shovelled chocolate into my mouth last night, Happy V-Day to me lol

Who makes people feel like smurf?.. I don't understand that, no one is in your face saying "shame on you for not having a spouse!".. lol
That's like saying people makes my family feel like smurf because we don't celebrate holidays. It's just silly.
Valentines day isn't just about a spouses, what about a friend, or a family member?

"What are you doing for Valentines?"
"Um sitting at home with my son, eating candy and watching recorded episodes of Steve Wilkos. thats about it"
"Oh....Im sorry"

I was like damn, I was excited about my night. Now you made me feel pathethic. Oh well, I have a box of Ferrero Rocher waiting on me.

OP, send yourself some chocolate with a note that says "Self, I love the smurf out of you. You are the bees knees. As a matter of fact i will never meet another you. pat yourself on the back for being awesome" Then eat all the chocolate and smile.

Well, really, almost ANY night, if that's the response, most people will be like "sorry."

I mean, if it's Friday and people ask me "What are you doing this Friday?"

And I say "Sitting home alone," they're going to say "that sucks, I'm sorry."

I don't think it is about Valentines day. There is this feeling of persecution with V-Day that's sort of nuts. I mean, people who don't have Dad's don't feel like Father's day is personally out to get them and that everyone is trying to make them feel bad about not having a Dad.

Not out to get them. But hyper aware of their single-ness. On fathers day, I was hyper aware of not having a father. Any other day it was not a bother but on THAT day, its hard.

I still don't think it's other peoples fault that you feel a certain way tho. People don't go out of their way to make you feel like smurf on a holiday.
