Mirena

posted 13th Feb
I went to the Dr today to talk to them about birth control. She told that because I have high blood pressure and my age (34) she does not recommend the pill. She said that the best thing for me was the Mirena. I have heard so many bad things about this so I am not sure what to do.
So I am asking for some pros and cons
Did you use it or know someone that did and how was it for you? TIA

Ask her about the Paraguard. It's basically the same as Mirena except it's non hormonal.

I've had it for three years and I love it, but I know a lot of people on here and irl who have had it and had nothing but problems. Maybe ask about Paragard.

I used Mirena for 3 years and had no issues with it whatsoever. I agree with the others, ask about Paragard as well. I didn't want to chance the Paragard because I am allergic to certain metals.

This   I dont want the Mirena because alot of people I know have had major issues with it. I'm getting paragard after this baby. It still has some of the same side effects and it can cause heavier and more painfull periods, but it is worth looking into.

That's a reason I chose Mirena. That and I hear Paragard causes heavier periods and I already had a heavy period. Haven't had one since before I was pregnant though! *knocks on wood*

She told me about ParaGard as well. She said that it can make your periods last longer and you bleed a lot more. She was really pushing the Mirna.

I had a huge problem with it,
Hes 17 months and eats like a horse...

All joking aside, it was awesome till i got preg, no body but me semmed to care, i was petrified of dying and or losing baby they couldnt get it out, and i was scared to have d&c, i was a nervous wreck till i was almost 6 months, they said the mirena had moved, they couldnt see it so baby might be ok...

Yeah. I never had a prob with my periods, mine have always been light and only last like 3-5 days. Mine stopped after a couple months on Mirena. Also, I had already thought it was a crazy idea to have something inside you for 5 years..Let alone 10..Freaked me out for a while. I would check for my strings so many times cause it freaked me out so much..lol. After I while I got used to that though..And eventually started forgetting to do my monthly check...

Only problem I have with it is that DH sometimes hits it during sex... instant mood killer.

I've had both mirena and paragard which I still have. I liked both however mirena caused me to hold onto weight. I lost 15 pounds the month after I had it taken out. I absolutely looove my paragard. Haven't had any issues with it

I haven't checked mine in like 2 1/2 years   it still pokes SO during sex sometimes so I know it's in there and I don't feel pain or discomfort with it so I know it's in place. When I get my yearly done they can see it so I just go with that.
But yeah. Always had super heavy and painful periods so I'm really glad that Mirena stopped mine. I got it before I had a PP period and never got one. Mine only lasted 3-4 days but I'd cramp for a week straight and bled through super plus tampons every hour and could barely get out of bed. Smurf periods.

I had the Mirena for almost 4 years. Had it taken out in January of this year. I never had problems with it. Not once. I didn't have a period either which was so nice. I would have some bleeding near my time of the month but nothing like a normal period. I personally think it was the choice for me and my family and I plan to use it again once we have our second baby *(Still TTC). I didn't gain any weight I actually lost all my pregnancy weight and got back down to the size I was before having my daughter.

Every women's body is going to react differently. All the horror stories you hear may never happen to you. Again all the good stories well those may not be true for you either. Your Dr does know what is best for you and if you not 100% with the Mirena talk to her about other options.

Pros out weight the cons for me. But then again I had no cons!
