Why do you boil your nips and bottles?

I mentioned that I was going to boil mine plus my breast pump part and my MIL asked why I was doing it at 29 weeks that I'll just have to do it again???

I boil the new bottles, wash and rinse, then store them in the cupboard. Is this wrong? I have been doing this since forever.....I also will boil them if LO gets sick.

and for the breast pump it loosens up any stuck breastmilk in the part if I boil it then wash.....

I would say to sterilize them..

Because it sterilizes them? That's what I do

To sterilize them... I wouldn't be doing it this soon though, you'll just have to do it again once LO is here.

I don't understand why it would need to be boiled again if it is boiled and washed an just stored away?

Because within that 10 weeks do you know how much dust & germs can accumulate?

They are going to be stored for weeks. There could be dust and other stuff settle on them.

That's the only thing I would be thinking about anyways lol.

I keep up with thr maintainance of the pump by steaming it wry regularly when I am using it so there really shouldnt be any milk dried inside it, but I just buy a new kit of parts for the breast pump when I have a new baby. It's like 30 dollars.

I don't boil the bottles and nipples at all. I run them through a steaming in the microwave, or now that we have a dishwasher I'll put them through a steam cycle but that's it. I do it around 37-38 weeks. I wouldn't do it this early.

Oh yeah, I get that. I plan on giving them a wash before the baby. I just want to get the sterilizing done.

Usually when I store them its with the lids on the bottle with the caps over as well.

Even then it's not 100% sterilized, i'd personally just sterilize them again to be safe. There is too much that can build up in the next few weeks even though they're just being stored.

Meh, I did the same thing with my first two and they are just fine. I was just curious how some of you ladies do your bottles.
