Moving WWYD

posted 13th Feb
DH's parents have a small, one bedroom apartment in the downstairs of their house. It's going to be freed up in a few months and DH and I have discussed moving in.

I have a pros and cons list but it's about even.

Pros:
Save money (rent would be between $200-300 less/month
Babysitter (MIL) if I went back to school or worked in the evenings
More job opportunities
We'd have a garden

Cons:
HUGE decrease in apartment size and amount of privacy
Longer commute for DH/more gas money
House/apartment have mold and are kind of dirty
Little to no cell service

Hm. Short term or long term? That would determine my answer.

Long term. At least 2 years while I went to school

Hmm. That's tough. I would think more as a short term, I'd definitely say yes.

The dirt and mold can be fixed.

The lack of space might be tough for a long time, though. Hmm.

If its short term, I'd say move in. Cheaper rent would give extra money for the commute, you could fix the mold problem. And cell service isn't a make or break deal for me. And always having a nearby babysitter is always a huge plus. Especially if its someone you trust.

Idk how I would bring up the mold problem for them to fix without offending them

I say no just because of the mold.

But, like most others said, if it's short term, ok.

Hm. I mean.... mold, or mildew? There's a big difference... and mildew would be very easy to clean out of your area and keep out with dehumidifiers and things.

I couldn't do it. I like having my own space

Mold, throughout the whole house and garage.

Hmm. I'd probably say that for the most part the cons aren't worth the pros... except the babysitting part. Do you think you'd be able to find something close to them, but not in their house?

That's really bad for everyone's health. I say no.

Hmm.

Then I'd say probably not, unless it was necessary to be able to go to school. Yaknow?

I don't think I could do it.
I need space to roam. And I need privacy.
Besides that, I like to feel like I'm totally independent.
