buying formula in bulk.... worth it?

posted 13th Feb
i was thinking about ordering a case off diapers.com or something.

is it really worth it? im thinking he will be on it till hes 2 at least (15 months now) and we go thru 1 big powder container a week plus a gallon or more of donor milk. i dont know how much longer i can get the donor milk for tho so our formula intake is going to double again

I would if you know you're going to use it and need a lot in the future.

We took DD off of formula at 1 year, I thought that was pretty standard.

Thats what I was wondering too.

If a normal baby with no low weight gain or medical issues, then I would stop using formula. But if its due to those reasons then sure why not. kwim?

Yah thinking it must be medical reasons. Because that is still a lot of formula to be going through.. especially at that age!

Formula lasts pretty long. I am due in May and have 50 cans already. Most of my expiry dates are around the baby's 1st birthday
But I would check expiry dates before you order.

I can definitely understand giving your 15 month ins breast milk, but why formula til he's two???

I gave my son just an evening bottle of formula until he was almost 15 months, just as kind of a multivitamin? I guess that's what went through my mind although I really think now that I just didn't want to let go of my little baby.

Why is he still on formula? Nutrient issues?
I would go ahead and buy in bulk if you think you need to so you dont have to worry about it again. My son used to drink a can every 2 days. Now that he eats food a can can last 3-4 days. Thank God cause it was KILLING my bank account

Ya it seems to be, when you look at the profile.

OP, i would give the toddler formula and supplement with some whole milk as well 1/2c a day with is only 4oz, just to get some extra fats in there as well and bring down the cost a bit. But is your lo on table foods yet?

Cause the formula intake wont go up if eating a good balanced diet as well. My dd is really smnall for her age and is 12 months old, but we didnt need to contiinue with the toddler formula since she is a healthy eater with a well balanced diet every day and we dont need any vitamins as well.

Does it really matter why he is on it? Her question wasn't if she should give him whole milk, formula or BM.

OP: I'd order it the expiration dates would give you enough time to use it.

Just wanted to add that around the time I cut the formula, I started giving DS a DHA/ARA supplement. That was the only thing I was concerned about him not getting enough of through a healthy diet.

We bought DDs in bulk and ended up wasting money in the long run because she switched over to whole milk before we were done. I should of just bought it as we needed it. I ended up giving it all to a friend.

You're right. Doesn't matter. But from her previous post about this, it seems she is not doing it per doctors recommendation. She is giving toddler formula til two because she nursed her other kids til that age and she is worried about this child not getting enough nutrients. Which I can totally understand because he seems to have some rather serious medical issues.
But, do you think taking in that much formula a day (going by how much she says she goes through in a week) could start to interfere with learning to eat solids? Like developing a taste for a variety of food, etc. will be hard if he's always full of formula.

where the hell does it seem like im "not doing it per doctors instructions"

he has oral adversions, he doesnt eat solids, he is going to ORAL THERAPY to learn to eat solids.

like meg said, i didnt ask for advice on why he is drinking it. just if it actually was a good idea or not.
