re: buying formula in bulk.... worth it?

posted 13th Feb
oh and toddler formula and his tummy is no bueno, he cant tolerate it at all

it has more calcium, less iron (toddler does) and more D but he is on a calcium suppliment already and slightly anemic so the extra iron is good for him

See thats why I was asking if it were due to any reasons being medical and if he ate table foods yet. So I could answer the question properly.

How long do they figure lo will still need the formula till 2? Cause I would think buying in bulk would be a good idea for a younger child, cause what happens if in a few months from now you get the ok to take lo off of it. kwim? That would be my worry about. But then again you could always re-sell the unopened stuff right?
So I would say in your situation buying in bulk may seem the best way to go.

really?

and the whole point of this was to decide if it WAS best. if it expires, if they find its cheaper, etc. i dont see online where you can check the expiration date

I was not implying that its wrong to give him formula and in sorry if it came off that way. It's just that, from reading your other post, it seemed like the formula was something youd decided to continue til age two. It wasn't like your doctor told you outright to "do this..." Kwim? It's your choice to do what you feel is right.

It's great he is in therapy for his aversions. I'm just curious though, and this is out of pure curiosity, could you not give him vitamins or a supplement to get him all the nutrients he needs? That, to me, just seems like it would encourage him to try solids more. Because he gets full on the formula, it could be counterproductive? Forgive me if I seem out of line, I'm honestly just curious about this.

That's why people were wondering though, because if you may be switching it any time soon, then bulk is not the way to go. Especially since toddlers have things 'click' for them and they understand things really fast sometimes between the 1 and 2 year marks.

Medical reason would be one where you wouldn't switch it, which is why people were asking.

its not that he doesnt get hungry. its the texture of food, the act of chewing he doesnt like. even if he IS hungry. he will gag, and get upset when you put food in his mouth. we are trying a "no spoon" technique now where we put food in front of him for his meals, he either eats or he doesnt, we dont push, dont look at him, dont encourage/discourage just let him explore. but it seems like all he does is throw the food on the floor for the dog to eat now :/ he used to at least eat a few bites. idk its very frustrating.

as for the one and only post i could find i made about extending formula use, i made in july when he was still a baby and we didnt even know he had such a bad oral adversion yet. i definatly would not purposly *only* give him formula till 2 years, as i have to buy it and its hella expensive and im a newly single mom to boot

Can you order it through a pharmacy with a prescription based on a diagnosis?

I would definitely do research and find the cheapest place online to order it and buy in bulk. Even if something happens and he begins to eat solids, you can always resell it on ebay or a local page. you might also check on ebay. we ended up having to buy all of our oldest formula from ebay because she could only take one kind and then they discontinued it when she was 5 months old!

Sounds like a good idea to me. If you have any left over you could always donate it. I don't think you'll have much left over. I can imagine that 15 month old would be going through a can a day.
