c-section mamas

posted 13th Feb
Okay so i just thought i would share this with yall and see what your views on it are. I like a page on facebook dedicated to mamas that have had a c-section(s). Well a fan vented about how someone told her that she didnt actually give birth because she had a c-section, so what do you mamas think? Is a c-section giving birth?

my reaction to this is if someone told me i didnt give birth to my son i would cause myself severe mental damage using every strength i had not to beat the living smurf outta them. I need to control my anger more lol haha.

I've thought about that before. Whenever I want to say "deliver, or give birth" I usually stop myself because it just doesn't sound right to me. I would not give two smurfs if someone wanted to say I didn't "give birth". I'm not offended by meaningless smurf though.

not worth getting all worked up over. I have 2 beatiful babies, and don't give a damn what other people think of my birth experiences.
I joke and call it "c-section day", and not "birth day"

I've never had one, but of course it's giving birth! And since you're left with more pain, longer recovery time, and more scars, it might even be more admirable than those who have med-free "natural" births.

i've kind of felt this way about myself. i would absolutely never say that to another momma, though. to me, i felt cheated out of "giving birth", so it kind of felt like it didn't happen. if someone said that to me and "confirmed" my feelings, i'd be devastated.

Hmm, I have never thought of that. I have never considered my c-section as 'giving birth' I just always think I 'had him'.

birth [noun]
1. an act or instance of being born: the day of his birth.
2. the act or process of bearing or bringing forth offspring; childbirth; parturition: a difficult birth.

I am not a c-section mother, but I'd just show her this.

The emergence of a baby or other young from the body of its mother; the start of life as a physically separate being

I had an emergancy c-section with my youngest, and I dont consider it as in giving birth, I see it as a operation to remove the baby from me.

But thats how I view it, if others want to consider it giving birth thats fine. Just I personally know I didnt give birth to her, she was surgicaly removed.

I had an emergency c section after a 15 hour labor and 3 hours of pushing on every contraction. As far as I'm concerned I gave birth and hell I might have even given birth twice since I suffered the vaginal tears and trauma as well as the scarring and pain of having a c section.

I would never tell a person that had a c section that they "didnt give birth". Those women who do not have a choice to try and "traditionally labor" are upset enough as it is that they dont get to experience that. Why would I devalue their birth experience becuase it was different...they earned their scars and stripes(stretch marks) just as much as anyone else.

I did not have a C-section but it to me it's still giving birth. Like, a child was still born whether he was pushed through the vaginal walls, or expelled via the stomach.

Agree completely. I was in labor for 18 hours, I never dialated past a three, was given an insane amount of pitocin and babies head would never drop into my cervix. He was born emergency c-section and was 22 inches, 9lb 7 ounces, with a 15 1/2 inch head (huge) and my doctor said his head was jammed in the side of pelvis and to have given birth to him naturally before c-section we both would have probably died. So I would say c-section planned or not is giving birth. He was born, entereted into the world even if he came straight our of my uterus instead of my vagina.
